@paulchinnz:

Clicking Single Page in this thread leads to 11 pages. Was hoping to Ctrl+F the single page for particular search terms.

I could do it on a Single Page but... Then you'd have to wait a few seconds for the whole thing to come up. If you don't mind...

I know I'd be fine with that.

@cadman @paulchinnz

Sure, try now then. Don't complain if your browser stops working.

I'm loading this thread and Chrome is already using 3GB RAM... If this is how it goes, I will just change it back. Perhaps double previous values but keep it in smaller "single pages".

Thanks @freitasm

The tab with this thread single-paged has a 850MB memory footprint and took few seconds to load but pretty good given I'm on ADSL.

The fact that I did not notice that Apple now insist you buy Apple Care within 60 days of purchase (at least for iPads). I had not noticed that the original method (for at least the last 10 years or so) on Macs, where you had to buy AC within the first 12 months, did not apply.

Grr.

I'm on VDSL and after 50 seconds, it still had not loaded the whole page on an Ethernet connection and a 4Ghz iMac with 32Gb of RAM...!

Yeah, Safari's in pain on my 3.3 GHz i5! I didn't think to check memory usage but it can't be good.

PS. I'm more amused than annoyed.

Edit: Got curious and tried it at work. 730 MB in Firefox. And out of sheer morbid curiosity I tried NetSurf on my Raspberry Pi which went as far as 128 MB then aborted the render.

Windows 7's utter inability to perform simple operations like copying files with any level of reliability.

"Select All"
"Copy"
(Click in target window)
"Paste"
(Wait 20 seconds, nothing's happened yet)
"Paste"
(Progress bar appears, disappears again, three of the six files have copied)
"Paste"
(It finally bothers to copy all six files)

If this was an isolated incident then that'd be annoying but acceptable. However, I run into this every other week. How hard can it be?!

Successfully single-paged this thread again. Guess I should resolve my post about it being annoying that I couldn't single-page this thread.

810 MB memory footprint in Chrome on Win10 XPS 13 with 16GB RAM. @Geektastic 32Gb RAM = 4 GB ... is that the problem? tongue-out

nz post keep sending me mail for someone who lives on waiheke island. Addresses are very clearly marked, post codes correct.

Our street names are similar , street number the same.

I live in Tauranga though.

First time i thought it was a mistake...keeps on happening though.

Probably already been mentioned in this epic thread, but after two incidents on my way into work this morning:

The inability of a worryingly large number of drivers to accelerate to a safe merging speed when joining a motorway. The number of times I find myself stuck behind someone still doing 65 as they reach the end of the On-Ramp is unbelievable!

hate this, if people could merge properly, in theory you shouldnt have to slow down at all , traffic would flow without any holdups.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

I agree.

I put it down to lack of opportunity to get used to it and practice. If you drove where there are a lot of proper motorways like Europe, you have to get good at this skill really soon. Just imagine how many on and off ramps there are on, say, the M25 alone.

It seems more common in Wellington to dawdle up to the end of the on ramp, then stop and wait!

And if you accelerate to a speed faster than that of the speed of those in the left lane, you're merging where you have perfect vision because it's in front of you!
