Im putting Win7 Pro on both of mine after putting in 2gb of ram.

I hear they are hard selling accessories. Word is that they have a bunch of netbook cases easily accessible by the counter in some stores, and one guy had the pitch for Norton 360 (way to bog down your netbook with trash) given to him twice.
Even on the phone the guy mentioned i should buy "an internet security solution" and Office.

It appears they are trying to make up for the loss on the item with as many accessories as possible, unfortunately i think many people will end up getting norton.

What i am considering, is how to go about creating a recovery iso from the XP install already on the netbook, in the case that i decide to resell or w/e.
Can it be confirmed whether it has a working recovery partition or not?

The DVD has a ghost image on it, and there is a hidden partition on the drive, I haven't tested it to make sure it works, but I think you can safely assume it does. Asus aren't muppets.

Won't buying windows 7 to put on it, be more expensive than the netbook itself. Are there really any benefits to running win 7 over xp on this computer.

Okay technically they both aren't mine, they are just being used by two people in the same household. I'll end up configuring them though.

They did say its custom built, so i wasn't sure or not.

Also Asus in general have a terrible recovery system for their full sized laptops. It has two discs's, not a recovery partition. This by itself makes it slow. You load up the first one which has the main image, and then for the driver/software disc is proceeds to install each driver and bit of software, using preset batch commands to 'sleep' for predefined periods of time to wait for that driver to load, before moving on to the next one. Very primative and inefficient system.
The end result, is it takes up to 2.5 hours to recover the laptop as opposed to 50mins with a usual recovery partition from another brand.

Super flexy keyboards?

When you type with reasonably firm finger action the middle of the keyboard deflects downwards by about 3-4mm.

Thanks Psilan. I think I'm right in saying this model does have the "seashell" case design? If yes, it will match the HP in terms of dimensions very closely.

Also, can anyone comment on whether it will run off the mains without the battery installed?

Don't they all (apart from apple ibooks)
In fact manufacturers recommend removing the battery, if not in use and connected to main for a long period, to prolong battery life.

Turns out HN Wellington do have them in stock. Maybe I missed out on a phone call because of the Telecom XT outage.
