I'm doing a lot more work remotely, including by video conference (yay - something that would go in the make me smile thread). Except...

Every blimmin' client has their own take on what amounts to a good/secure/suitable video conference platform. It seems every meeting I have, I need to install another launcher/app. I cleaned out my notebook a month or so back, and I've already installed Skype, Skype for Business (that was a weird one), Zoom, Hangouts (admittedly that one wasn't an install), GoToMeeting and Legaler.

So, I bought a laptop for my son from Harvey norman today.

The store rep was pushing the extended warranty, did not mention the CGA at all. When I asked about added protection over and above the CGA he said harvey norman will deny any CGA claim outside the standard product warranty and I would be required to take them to the disputes tribunal -- this takes much longer so I am better off with the $250 extended warranty.

I would have walked out if it wasn't such a good deal.

Really annoying....

I *strongly* suggest you contact HN head office about this. That is deliberately misleading and if I am not incorrect, this is cause for them to fall foul of the commerce commision (With large fines a potential consequence).

I have just had a similar thing with another retailer I am having an appliance issue with and when I reported what the store manager told me, they were on the phone within 5 minutes in a panic to reassure me they would immediately pull said manager off the floor and retrain them.

See the Commerce Commission's website. Quoting one bit in particular:

The CGA guarantees apply regardless of any other warranty provided or sold to the consumer. Businesses must not mislead consumers about their rights under the CGA. Doing so may breach the FTA. For example, because CGA guarantees apply for a reasonable period of time depending on the nature of the goods or services, they may continue to apply after any other written warranty has expired. If a business states that consumers’ CGA rights are limited to a specified number of years this may mislead consumers about the duration of their CGA rights.

Ditto "I could care less" instead of the correct "I couldn't care less" and so forth.

"I could care less" gets the point across quite well, IMO.

No, it does not.

The phrase "I couldn't care less" is used to mean literally what it says - it would not be possible for me to care less about whatever it is.

The phrase "I could care less" does not get that point across, is incorrect vernacular and is just plain nonsense when used in place of the correct phrase.

It's an idiom and probably sarcastic.  It does get the point across, even for people like me with mild ASD, who can learn to understand such things.  I'll be heels over head when others can "get" this.

they are breaking the law and can be fined up to a $1000. if the salesman try's to sell you a extended warranty he has to ,by law, tell you about the CGA and your rights . I have yet to meet a salesperson who does it .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Went to the T20 in Hamilton on Sunday night and went to get a drink from the bar. They had EFTPOS but it was not for paying, it was only for withdrawing cash at a $2 surcharge so you could then pay. Seems a bit of a scam. If they bother to have EFTPOS there why not just let you pay that way?

The practice of white soles on so many shoes today. Looks awful, gets dirty quickly and easily and is hard to clean.

I can kinda understand their perspective. Every eftpos transaction takes 10-20 seconds of swiping, typing pin code etc etc.
If you allowed every person buying a packet of potato chips to pay with EFTPOS that would slow down customer service and form a queue that nobody wants.

So the surcharge is there to get you to use the EFTPOS machine once and take out $20 or $50 or however much your budget is for the night rather than swiping the card every single time you buy a beer.

My related annoyance:  The fact that every EFTPOS machine seems to want me to swipe my card with the magnetic strip a different way.

How car insurance premium are increasing way above inflation.....last year $632...this year $730.

(I can kind of understand why.  With so many cars having sensors and what not, small dings probably cost a lot more to fix these days.....but it's still annoying.)

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

They do get dirty quickly and easily, but comes off easily with a bit of Jif.

Jif is worse than smoking according to a new study lol. Also, I know fashions have changed, but in my view, if I wear a pair of black shorts (more dressy than casual) and a dark top, white souled shoes seem... off to me?

"I could care less" is the common American usage I believe. My understanding is that it was originally meant as a sarcastic version (as @Fred99 states), but it is now typically said without any discernible sarcastic inflection because it has become so commonly understood what it is meant to mean.

The idea of "dress shorts" seems off to me!

I'll wear white soled shoes with casual shorts or blue jeans. They certainly aren't dressy, but I don't think they're intended to be.

They'd be no good for moon-walking or tap-dancing methinks.
