Been watching some oldies but goodies lately (my own collection)

The IPCRESS File (1965): 7/10 - Michael Caine. In London, a counter espionage Agent deals with his own bureaucracy while investigating the kidnapping and brainwashing of British scientists.

This is a slow burner psychological thriller from the pen of Len Deighton. A bit dated now but still enjoyable.

The Odessa File (1974): 7/10 - Jon Voight & Maximilian Schell. Following the suicide of an elderly Jewish man, a journalist in possession of the man's diary investigates the alleged sighting of a former S.S. Captain, who commanded a concentration camp during World War II.

Based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth (which I have some where). These type of hunt the NAZI thrillers were all the rage in the sixties and seventies. This is certainly one of the better ones.

Studio 666 - Yes its a movie made by a band. So dont expect fantastic acting or even story. Just zone out and enjoy the carnage and humor :D 7/10

PS: R16 rating extremely warranted :D

Movieman:

KIMI (2022) Amazon Prime - Enjoyable Modern Day Thriller (7/10)

@Movieman: I take it that's US-based Amazon Prime or elsewhere, as opposed to the NZ offerings? It's just that it's not showing up for me, searching by title, main actor or director.

I would usually watch most of Steven Soderbergh's films, even though there's quite some variety in quality, so would certainly give this a go if I could find it...

Its available on iTunes now. Only up for purchase ($19.99) ATM.

I also saw this last week.

I'm a massive Foo Fighters fan and fully expected the cheese and poor acting. What I didn't expect was how funny it was and how much I was able to really enjoy it, despite the schlock horror.

I particularly liked the "in-jokes" where they exaggerated the character traits of the band members.

It was equal parts Nightmare on Elm Street/Hard Day's Night/Ghostbusters

I'm off the see The Batman tonight. My son has already seen it and wants to go again tonight with me. in his words, "This is the best Superhero movie ever made". A bold call.

Really interested to see what people think of it.  I've read a few spoiler-free reviews so far which intrigue me.  "Best superhero movie ever" is a very bold call (Dark Knight anyone?), so it will be interesting to see what you think of it.

The King’s Man (2021) Disney+ (3 out of 10)

A prequel, or origin story for the 2 Kingsman films set in the present, this film takes place before and during the First World War. Where the previous films were fast paced and entertaining, this one was turgid and slow. It is full of talented actors and only dipped slightly into the required diversity pool. There were nods to the other films and it did attach its plot line to some historical facts but on the whole the story didn’t carry well.
It only resembled the previous films in the final 25 minutes. By that time family members, who had watched and enjoyed those earlier ones, had long given up and gone to do other things. The whole thing was 2hr12. About half an hour too long.

If you expect to be entertained by this because you enjoyed the previous films you may be disappointed, I was.

But if you do endure, there is a mid credits scene.

The wife and I tried to watch The Lost Daughter on Netflix.  Nicely filmed, but half an hour in all seemed a bit directionless and with no characters we really cared about.  I can't comment about the last 90 minutes because we watched something else instead.

i agree with what you have said and was quite predictable but we found it to be a good laughable romp.

6/10 which is what IMDb is giving 6.3/10

Anyone know of a legal way to watch the latest Batman movie at home?

Not prepared to risk 10 days isolation to watch it in Cinemas but keen to see it.

OOf that's a long wait. I wonder how many people are in Cinemas these days in Auckland?

A colleague went to see it the day it opened. Admittedly it was in the afternoon but there were two other people in a 300 seat cinema.

Not so easy right now, unfortunately.

Might try and get to a Weekend AM viewing.
