Take Armageddon, Deep impact, Day after tomorrow, Contact, Prometheus, The Matrix

and smush them all together and there you go.

Oh The Core and Earthquake throw them in there as well.

Edit: On reflection it did not even deserve the 4 I gave it 3 feels better.

DEATH ON THE NILE (2022) iTunes Rental 7.5/10

Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot's Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer when a picture-perfect couple's idyllic honeymoon is tragically cut short.

Not having read the book, and not knowing the outcome; I went into this film with a completely open mind. I have to say that it certainly beat my expectations by a goodly amount. Some enjoyable blues music throughout, just added some ambience to the time that the film was set. It is a typical Agatha Christie story, full of twists and turns, with a satisfactory conclusion. I did turn on the subtitles when Poirot was explaining his findings, as I found it difficult to catch everything because of his accent. The visuals are gorgeous. It was only when I read his name in the credits, that I realised that Russell Brand was one of the characters.

I enjoyed most of the movies that you mentioned. I like “turn your brain off at the door” movies, and they usually get the most out of my video and sound system.

Sounds like my type of movie. Plus Halle Berry is a definite plus for me 😀

DEATH ON THE NILE (2022) iTunes Rental 7.5/10

Apologies to anyone who tried to rent this movie. I actually tried to rent it, but its not available for rent until April 13th. I did actually buy it for $19.99 as I had a few dollars in my account left over from some gift cards from Christmas. 378 titles in my library now 😎

I completely agree that this movie is terrible. Except...

I went into watching it knowing it was a piece of utterly unbelievable junk and had a thoroughly enjoyable time switching my brain off for two hours. It is really all about what you are after with this one. If it is a good plot and great storytelling then go elsewhere. If it is to munch on popcorn and laugh at the utter absurdity of it all then this is the movie for you. Definitely not Mr Emmerich's best work but who really cares because this is so bad it is good.

3/10 = fair from a critical standpoint

10/10 = Utterly mindless entertainment

Watched Death on the Nile on Disney+

Stellar cast, well acted with outstanding cinematography and it really did take me back to Egypt - one of my favourite places of all time to travel to.

A little slow and long in patches, but I enjoyed it. 7/10

The Bubble Netflix NZ - confused, confusing and almost funny.

Another one of the Netflix specials that seems to have the premise that if you chuck enough stars in it, it'll be great! It's not. 3/10

Voyagers, Prime Video.

Give it 8 out of 10. Basically Lord of the Flies story in space.
Not fast action but almost a horror movie, explores what happens when give into basic instincts without concern for others or consequences.

Some secrets in there as well.

Watched Boss Level  on Netflix.

Frank Grillo.

Action with some vague sci fi thrown in.

Groundhog day meets Kill Bill.

It was "take out your brain and watch with no expectations" kind of fare. It's not going to win Oscars.

5/10

Also watched Matrix Resurrections in the weekend.

I'm a massive Matrix fan. I didn't enjoy this one. It felt like a meaningless sequel for the sake of making one. Or maybe even a reboot with some of the same actors. 3/10

Decided it was time for a return to the cinema.

The Batman.  7/10.  Darker and grittier version.  A little long and boring in places.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.  8/10. Much better than the last, an enjoyable addition to the series.

Bonus score:

3/10 for our Hoytz "Lux" experience.  Ticket price a little eye watering and that's before you get to the cost of food and drink (before it was a nice meal at a fair price, now they think they are a 5-star restaurant?). The Lux area seemed to be open for anyone to use so people with normal seat tickets were making the most of it.  Even had to kick some people out of our seats when we first arrived and others who clearly didn't care then went on to be disruptive, on their phones etc.    Considering I dropped around $300 for 4 of us this was disappointing and not something I will be repeating anytime soon.  A good reminder as to why we don't go often.

@scuwp I would write a letter to the cinema to be honest. Constructive Feedback is worth the effort in my experience.

Hoyts keep asking me why I didn't renew my membership with them, even discounted it to try and get me back, but their food prices are about 25% more than the either two chains and I have fed back I consider that a deal breaker.
