I've heard there are some... "establishments" that use innocuous sounding names for this very purpose!

"Global Connect" (or something to that effect) is Apple. That's probably the most confusing high-profile company that I've seen, but small home business-type companies tend to be confusing too, eg. when you go to "Bob's Plumbing" but your statement reads "BT Smith Ltd".

Meanwhile, some JavaScript is currently annoying me. Here's a representative sample, presented with its original formatting:

That my Credit Card is rejected by 2Degrees for a Top-Up (Tried over several hours), yet works anywhere else I've tried.

And the accent of the person at the 2D call centre meant the conversation was impossible, due to not being unable to understand her.

Could not distinguish the difference between a P, T or V of which there were multiple in the reference number to my call.

Despite repeating it back several time - the read backs were always incorrect!

Hey 2Degrees - I'm trying to give you money! Why is it so hard?

More and more knowledge being stored/published in youtube videos instead of text.

Its acceptable for some purposes: practical "how to stuff". But reviews, troubleshooting pieces etc are increasingly becoming only available in video format.

I don't have time to watch your 15 minute video, just to catch the tiny key piece of information I need. There is no way to quickly scan a video. Double speed is still too slow, and scrubbing risks missing it entirely.

I can speed read, so I can get through much more info if I can quickly scan a text for the key piece of information I'm searching for. Doing research like this via video is a real chore.

Software that makes assumptions that aren't necessarily true. In this case, Subversion assuming that it's running on a case-sensitive system. I changed the case of a file and Subversion saw it as a new file. It then noticed that the "old" file was gone, so it deleted it from the server*, but since it's not running on a case-sensitive machine this meant that it deleted the "new" one!

*Technically it's the local cache (the "/svn" directory) but that's splitting hairs...

Worse still, companies called, say, Bob's Widgets that appear to be operating in NZ and then the bill reads something like "Aeon Taster, Singapore PTY"

Companies that expect you to be able to comply with their delivery systems, rather than tailoring their delivery to their customer who should always come first.

EG we have no physical delivery. We use a PO Box. This leads to endless issues with firms who won't use Courier Post, as no other courier seems capable of delivering to a PO Box. I often end up having to cancel orders and re-order from elsewhere because they do not make it clear on their ordering system that they won't deliver where you need it delivered, so you order and then get an email days later saying they can't do what you asked them to do.

I hear ya. Had the same issue in the past when living in the boonies, but managed a bit of a better hit rate when I addressed it to the local Post Office ie, Po Box 112-5555, C/- Boonie Post Office. That way, couriers will deliver it to the post office. Seems that a lot of locals did the same thing as there always piles of parcels with various courier stickers plastered all over them.

However, in the end, I just get them delivered to my place of employ. So much easier, and I get notified when it arrives ..

This is really small, and it irritates me only a little: RNZ using a stock photo of a left hand drive car to illustrate a story. Couldn't they at least flip the image to make it appear as if it belongs in New Zealand?

Unfortunately the PO Boxes are a converted container...!

If Courier Post cannot fit the item in, they will leave a card. No one else seems capable - you just get "sorry, we can't deliver to PO Boxes. Can we have a physical address please?" as if PO Boxes are some sort of metaphysical thing existing in a quantum dimension, rather than occupying a physical location and thus address...
