I missed a call last night on our landline, from a "private caller" who left a brief message, transcribed:

"Hey Dawn, I'm back in the loony bin - South ward"
"How come none of you F**ckers ever come to visit me?"
"Anyway, bye"

I don't know a "Dawn", never heard of a "South ward", but I'm almost 100% sure I have the answer to the question.

Sorted!

Phone rang a few minutes ago and I answered it.

Same voice asks "Hello, is Dawn there?".

At least she now knows she had the wrong number, if she has the correct number then hopefully she might get a visitor - but it surely won't be me.

Unnecessary steps in phone actions. For example, on my Note, there's an icon on the screen when you get a text notification which is a telephone.

Expecting it to ring your voicemail, you press it. So it opens the dialler, with the voicemail number filled in. Why? Why not just dial it?

This doesnt really annoy me, it gives me a chuckle, its also pretty sad. I dont know what some people, do in their lives.

Yet when you read the Stuff comments you will always find someone whining. If the Queen gave us all $10,000 cash tomorrow, someone at Stuff comments will find a way to bag it. Annoying, yes. Funny, yes. Sad, definitely

I really have trouble understanding this saying - Why else would I want cake if it's not for eating? What else do people do with cake? Are there cakes that aren't for eating? Why would I buy that?

My better half has a cake stand. A friend asked what it was - when told, he looked confused. "but cakes aren't for standing, they're for eating!"

Translate it as "eating all of your cake but still expecting to have a whole, uneaten cake left afterwards"

Wanting to "Have" (i.e "possess") one's cake and eat it too...

Not really but we are a bit pedantic about it, we but all bottles, cans and appropriate meat containers etc straight into recycling after washing them. Wet vegetable waste goes into the compost. Other dry waste goes in the waste bin and wet waste like meat scraps are wrapped and pit in the bin. The bin is Usually emptied into the wheelie bin every three or four days days, sooner during the hot days.

Just to rub it in, as the picture frame drops, it'll probably scrape, transferring some of the paint on the frame to the paint on the wall, it won't be able to be cleaned off - leaving you with a worse mess to sort out than patching a hole and repainting - which is why you used the stupid things in the first place. Then someone tells you that the problem was that you used a crappy brand of removable wall picture hangers, so you try the brand they say works well, read the instructions etc etc, and they still fall off the wall.

In my experience the 3M ones work little too well. To the point where removal without damage is a lottery.

From the CCC:

What can't go in your recycling bin (and needs to go in your red bin - destined for landfill)

No plastic film, wrap, strap, or newspaper wrap
No plastic bags other than supermarket checkout bags
No bubble wrap
No polystyrene/meat trays

Not wishing to rain on the parade, but apart from PET plastic bottles, some trays, and milk bottles, supermarket checkout bags seem to be the main plastic item that is actually able to be recycled.

IMO banning those plastic bags is mainly symbolic as they're very visible, at the checkout or at home, but also in the environment ending up hanging from the limbs of trees etc. because they blow around.

41,000 tonnes of plastic waste was exported in 2017. I guess that's going to drop now that China has banned import, as even though not all NZ waste went to China, that'll be causing backlogs/excess waste availability - for example some NZ waste went to Australia for recycling, but they don't seem to be able to keep up and were exporting plastic waste to China as well.

The supermarket and hardware store shelves are loaded with overpackaged product that's hard to avoid, most of it will never be recycled, and most of it could be avoided completely if there was an attitude change from consumers.

I haven't had much luck with the 3m ones either. I'm wondering if part of the reason may be that our place gets a lot of sun and can get very hot inside if windows aren't left open. The latest one to fall off the wall did happen after we'd been away for a few days, the house locked up and secure with windows closed.

I have seen repeated claims from manufacturers that consumers demand this, but do they really? I certainly don't. I have always found excess packaging irritating and I try to avoid it as much as possible. I have never understood why most things cannot be sold from barrels like they were in the 19th century.
