BlueShift:

The way Z energy apply their petrol discounts after the transaction. So if I want $40 of fuel, and I wave my flybuy card at the machine for a 6c/l discount, it then puts $40 of fuel in at full price and after that, subtracts 6c/l from it so I end up paying $38.23 or some stupid amount. This is mildly irritating, as I wanted $40 worth, not $38.23. When it gets really annoying is if you're using a voucher - the voucher card then gets left with $1.78 on it which is of no use to anyone except Z.

I'm tempted to take a half dozen old voucher cards in and buy a can of coke with the change on them.

My annoyance with fuel places is that they sell by $ and not my litre. So I cant ask for 50 litres of fuel when dealing with the crap discounts that only apply to 50l, I have to manually sit there ticking it up slowly at the end to hit 50.

I can understand buying fuel by the $ in the era of cash being shoved out the window to someone that pumped it for you, but the world has moved on from that, just let me put 5l into my 5l cans without playing fuel pump blackjack.

Presented my one card at countdown and the self service machine spazzed out, because it read it as an unknown barcode.

What a stupid customer experience that is. Whole thing grinds to a halt and needs manual intervention to recover.

Supervisor lady looked at me like it was my fault for not magically knowing to swipe the magstripe instead of presenting it to be scanned. Pretty sure the UI prompt used language like ‘present or swipe your one card’ too.

I get quite annoyed at dumb processes like this.

The whole thing grinding to a halt is certainly annoying. In the pre-Paywave days I was pulling my card out of my wallet and my Subway card fell out and landed on the scanner. The machine promptly died.

Meanwhile, today's annoyance is when the computer "does stuff". My SSD is almost full (for those of you following my other thread, this is a different machine!) so I checked space (12 GB free) before downloading a 6 GB file. When the download was nearly complete, I suddenly only had 2 GB free. Then two minutes later, 7 GB free. Something in the background is obviously doing something, but I wish I knew what!

The number of times in GZ postings I see "loose" for "lose". Is it ignorance or is the blame put on predictive text? If the latter, don't we know it needs to be monitored?

Lose, loose, to, too, their, there - this is an old complaint that has gone around many, many times. New Zealand seems to have an unusually high proportion of dyslexics. I'm afraid it is a loosing battle.

Accepting an incorrect text prediction also indicates an element of iggorance - so that’s not neccesarily a excuse.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

On the assumption that you’re running anti-virus software, because you should be, it’s probably the ani-virus software scanning the download. They normally recognise compressed files/containers (like .zip files), and unpack them to scan the contents...

People. In general but also their complete obliviousness to others.

Example: Today, at a very small petrol station (2 lanes, 4 bowsers), I was filling up. It was pretty busy but I was almost out of petroleum distillate and this one was on my route (I later realised why it was so busy - twits saving a nominal $8.60 by getting in before the regional levy kicks in tomorrow - I should have filled earlier in the week, but I forgot). So as I arrive woman at a bowser gets in her car. I presumed she was leaving because why else would you get in the driver's seat of your car at a petrol station, right?. I was wrong. So I moved to go around the car at the pump behind her. Turns out she was just moving her tiny car a little then got back out and then she goes inside to pre-pay (because... South Auckland). So she comes back outside and while she's filling up, the car I was going to leap frog is finished and leaving, so I take his place instead.

She finishes pretty quickly and she gets in her car. I motion to the guy that has pulled in behind me to go around to the far pump as it's coming free. He starts to do so as I finish filling but she's not leaving yet - she apparently wants to make the most of this outing to the petrol station so sits in her car at the bowser. He toots at her to get her attention - it hardly works. She moves barely a couple of feet forward.

In the meantime I go inside to pay (not pre-pay, because... white privilege) and when I come out a couple of minutes later he's managed to eject her from the pump and is heading in to pre-pay (because... no white privilege).

Bugger me if he has parked so badly at the bowser I now can't get out without driving over the garden because as I said it was quite busy and there was now a car behind me. What a muppet.

So two-wheels in the garden I go. If he'd been there he'd have gotten a serve but I was on a clock and didn't have time to wait for him to come out (there were a couple of people in the queue behind me as I paid so he would have been a while).

TLDR: Woman can't park properly, then won't get out of the way for man who also can't park properly. Neither give a stuff about anyone besides themselves.

Oh dear. *Losing.

It drives me around the bend too. As does the than vs then I see so regularly.

We don't have a high proportion of dyslexics - we have a high proportion of lazy, ignorant people. Even apparently educated people do it.

My spelling error was intentional for the purpose of irony. Amusing that people take it literally.

Irony is often lost on message boards without some obvious indicators.

Read what was intended and not how it is written, this is an internet forum not an English examination. Folks with dyslexia have a hard enough time and as with any disability they don't do it to piss people off.

I have two sons with severe dyslexia that have suffered teasing and bullying because of their disabilities and it caused real harm it makes me very angry, and oh they have advanced degrees.

I am not targeting people with genuine disabilities. One of the children I am close to also suffered from Dyslexia when younger. But I also know people who simply can't be bothered and that kind of intellectual laziness is inexcusable because it drags standards down. If you know you have difficulty with spelling, at least use a spell checker. That won't catch homonym errors but it will already go a long way towards avoiding really dumb mistakes.

I still believe the grammar and spelling police are worse. How do you tell if it is "intellectual laziness"?  So far in our society people with disabilities or do not have English as a first language do not have to wear badges announcing and detailing their disabilities or abilities.
