Fun with recruitment again. You'd think if someone wants a job here then they'd actually get our name right on their cover letter...

Halving an HR department that actually understands the business.

Yeah, halving an HR department is good for business ....

I'm in favour of the "never employ unlucky people" principle -  select half the applications at random, and chuck those directly in the recycle bin.

Should enable resourcing that department with fewer humans.

Another birthday coming up. I don't wanna get older!

It beats the alternative.

You could use that extra time to tidy up your affairs - making sure that your epitaph could have "Duirt me leat go raibh me breoite" written in the lingua franca etc.

Coworker with a notification on her smartphone that sounds at every email received, shortly followed by another sound coming from her laptop when the email also shows up in Outlook. She receives a lot of emails.

This may have been mentioned but

The apparent inability of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch etc to agree on using a common form of electronic ticketing for public transport so that one card would work country wide.

What really riles me up is the damn freezer drawers that fridges have today.

Just got a new fridge recently with the drawers - it seems they all have them.

The old fridge had a freezer compartment that used to be basically a square cube with a single grill shelf and you could fit quite a lot in.

In frustration I yanked the bottom drawer out today and just stacked stuff up in the bottom.... yell

Mine had 3 drawers.  Conveniently it had a shelf between them.  So now it has the bottom drawer, then an open shelf, then the top drawer.  Can fit far more in the open shelf than the drawer that resided there.

My SO has asked me to proof-read, edit and print a 20 page document that contains an assortment of rambling verbatim transcriptions from interviews, obscure place names (ie the name locals call some feature, "Bobbity's knob" or whatever), assorted colloquialisms, and poorly OCR'd text (scanned in about 1994 from the look of it) with no original.

Go to the last page, type "The End" and print it. Job done  then run. tongue-out

I just had an ad for Australia-only streaming service "Stan". Either a local launch is imminent, or, more likely, they didn't bother to geo-restrict their ads. In any case they screwed up since it's not currently available!

Fred99:

I missed a call last night on our landline, from a "private caller" who left a brief message, transcribed:

"Hey Dawn, I'm back in the loony bin - South ward"
"How come none of you F**ckers ever come to visit me?"
"Anyway, bye"

I don't know a "Dawn", never heard of a "South ward", but I'm almost 100% sure I have the answer to the question.

Sorted!

Phone rang a few minutes ago and I answered it.

Same voice asks "Hello, is Dawn there?".

At least she now knows she had the wrong number, if she has the correct number then hopefully she might get a visitor - but it surely won't be me.

Oh no! (several months later).

Phone rang a few minutes ago and I answered it.

Same voice asks "Hello, is Dawn there?".

YouTube. It seems to be more or less okay in Windows and maybe other OS's, but the Android versions - all of them - are an absolute, convoluted, chaotic, cluttered, unworkable, confused mess. I have never seen anything like it. And this has been going on for years! It is like they don't even care. The latest is that the Subscriptions list is broken, so you only see four or so listed regardless of how many you have. This has also been going on for months. YouTube knows about it. Millions have complained about it. But it still isn't fixed. How the hell is anyone supposed to trust an outfit that screws up this badly for so long to ever operate a driverless car on public roads? This is beyond pathetic. It is incomprehensible.

Just because it's top of mind today - gym members who don't put away weights when they have finished them.
