The fact is that right no, just a week after it was signed into law, it is topical.

Play this same ad in 6 months time, then I'll 100% agree with you, it would just be plain unfunny and offensive.

At that point I'll 100% agree with you also that it should be in that list of other really offensive suggestions you posted earlier.

In the mean time, I've very sorry you feel offended by the ad. I think you'll be in a very very small minority, and I do accept that some people are simply going to find it offensive no mater what anyone (including myself) says.

I've seen worse from tui but yeah they are never meant to be neutral ... like hells pizza

one could just about do a phd on where to draw the line based on tui ads alone!

Got to disagree. Its a skill. Not a reactive thing.

you cant choose whether to be offended or not. You CAN choose whether to respond and voice your offence.

MIA You can't promise something like that. I have no idea what you're gonna ask. You could ask me what you're gonna ask me, and my natural response could be to be offended. Then, through no fault of my own, I woulda broken my promise.

Good leaders are not easily offended people. Think of the consequences if they were. Imagine if the police took offence at all the name calling? I'm sure some of them may have taken offence the first or second times it happened. They grew thicker skin and no longer take offense.

That's one of the first DVDs I ever bought. At that stage I had to order most of them from Amazon because you couldn't buy them in the small backwater country known as 'Australia'. It's an early enough example of DVD manufacture that it actually has encoding errors in some places. Not just my particular disk - it's a known bug in the DVD. Ah, the good old days: grown up salary, living out of a suitcase (travelling 45 weeks of the year for work), and no girlfriend.

It is topical, not typical. You know they are two different words right and they mean different things?

Topical means it is something currently being discussed. typical means it is the norm. Gay marriage is topical (it is currently being discussed), but it is not typical (it is not the norm)

I already said I am not offended. I ams stating that I can see why some people would be, especially if they have just spent years fighting against bigotry and derision to finally make some progress for equality.

I've yet to hear of anyone who is (by name).

Personally if I'd spent years fighting for this one I'd be a bit touched that it got a Tui, because to me it shows acceptance of the issue.

To me it's suggesting that people think it's actually ok to just have a laugh at this issue now.

But again, I agree with the suggestion that in 6 months it might not be very funny any more.

In print it's impossible to gauge where the intended tone of it lies on the continuum from a lighthearted topical twist on a (common?) family scenario, to sarcastically mocking the dad for marrying a man.

I thought it was mildly amusing and wasn't offended (and I'm gay). Then again, I'm not that easy to offend. Not as funny as...

I'd prefer it if Tui had waited a little longer and likewise if some of my fellow gays would choose their battles a little more wisely.

I drove past last weekend and didn't see it. Advertisements like those, Powershop and Hells do not inspire me to buy infact the opposite would apply. I like numerous positive ads like Toyota and 2Degrees. The ad method employed like this just give an impression of non professionalism.

I know why they do it, it's called disruptive advertising, there real target is the media, chat shows, talk back and social media. They believe they get greeter coverage with minimal outlay. However it is accentuating the negative where they should be accentuating the positive.

Those upset need to "get a wife" or is it "get a life" I'm confused. Thankfully we live in a society where people have freedom of speech and freedom of choice so hopefully we can all move on without getting upset about this ad or any future ad that is poking fun at ourselves.
