I found it funny. This is what Tui billboards are good at. Poke fun.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Tui are losing customers fast. If people uncomfortable with SSM are adopting this, there will not be a good outcome.

Ha, I had a chuckle when I opened this and saw the billboard.

I personally don't think they have crossed a line. It would be no different to if they had said dads new wife seems nice IMO.

I am pretty sure people are still going to university and therefore there are still many many people drinking their rubbish beer. Billboards like this do not deter Tui's current customers because they find them funny.

It looks like there is more text on the billboard that has been blacked out. Hard to make out but it looks like it says something like

Dads new husband seems nice because his [something] short list

Maybe just text from the previous tui billboard?

Probably not. If it is seen as playing to and supporting homophobic tendencies then moving on from that is unlikely. Homophobic attacks and injuries occur with some regularity.

Probably an earlier text (in fact this one):

Their ads are created to shock. They have to therefore take any flak they get, as it is often free advertising for them. Personally not a fan of some of the more borderline ones that deal with marginal topics.

Tui's "Yeah Right" campaign has often been a bit edgy and there's probably not many groups who haven't felt they've been singled out at some stage. That's life.  No doubt some Catholics and or Destiny Church members were upset with the other Tui billboard mentioned on this thread and there were no doubt many in both groups who had a good laugh.

The way I see it, it's a win for Tui as they create attention to their product either way, as the old adage goes any publicity is better than no publicity at all.  Very often the best thing to do is ignore something you don't like rather than draw attention to it by complaining.

Personally I thought it topical and quite clever and saw it in the same way as if a family were talking about Dad's new wife or Mums new husband and the fact step mothers/fathers are not always welcomed by the children of the other partner.  I saw nothing homophobic about it at all.

It's a bit like todays newspaper, being tomorrows fish and chip wrapper, give it a week or so and it will be replaced with something else and people will forget it was ever there.

because gay marriage is so topical and controversial at the moment, the implication of the billboard is that the reason people wouldn't like their dads husband is because he is gay and there is therefore something intrinsically wrong with gay people, rather than (if it were just 'wife') because that particular person is annoying.

consider how acceptable it would be to put up a billboard that said something like

"I really like my dads new Maori wife... Yeah right"
