It's interesting to see the breakdown - if I'd looked at your name "standalone" then I'd have wondered what "heyl" meant and why it was "in before NZ".

Back in 1994 I think I was doing a summer research project at the Otago Uni Psyc department (on reward structure influence on behaviour in animal and human child populations) and part of the analysis involved using SPSSX on the departments VAX. So, I had a login on that, and that gave me email and actual internet access.

I was pointed by a fellow researcher to a MUD called Foothills and at the time I was a big Red Dwarf fan, so when asked for a username I just picked the silliest character on the show... The Talkie Toaster... I entered it as TalkietToaster (capitals like that) and while it accepted it, you just have to love the lack of real input validation or user friendliness of systems that age. The MUD truncated my name to 7 characters without telling me, so it became 'TalkieT', and that stuck.

So. gulp... That's ~20 years on the same handle.

Cheers - N

I couldn't think of anything for a Xbox live account a few years so I started along the idea of a name not being a name and came out with TheNamless1. So now I normally stick with that or some variation along the same lines.

I have news to you! The lack of real input validation or user friendliness of systems is alive and kicking in today's systems as well...

I'm a geeky geek. Pretty simple really. Have been using it for about 9 years after changing from Morbid1 - I even had freitasm change it for me way back then so I wouldn't have to create a new Geekzone account.

I also use xpdnz where xpd isnt available....  for gaming now Im tending to use "demisenz", (demise being the "D" in XPD) - had fun times using XPD once in a game of CS....  was a player with the nick "PDX" and he was accused of having a bot in-game - me. ;)

I've always loved growing things... Demeter was my IRC Mod handle on ZANET in the 90's. It was registered on NickServ at the time. =)

If I find I need to sign up for something and Demeter is taken (it usually is) then I just use 8BitGirl.

I can't really remember why I chose "DravidDavid".  I've been using it since my early Battlefield 1942 days.  I think I looked up things that rhymed with David and smashed the two together.  My CounterStrike/Battlefield 2 handles were hardly appropriate for a technology forum, haha...But they had a much more in-depth history. :)
