Hypothetically, which of the following governments would you be happy with seeing your day-to-day activity in interest of protecting the country?

One led by Bill English?
One led by Winston Peters?
One led by Donald Trump?
One led by Kim Jong-un?

Why would that be relevant? The comment I made relates to the fact you are suggesting my neighbour has equivalent reason to be privy to my private goings on as the Government might, which obviously isn't so.

I support the Government in protecting our country, our people and interests. I give qualified support to the government with regards to assisting Allies with mutual defence and security.

The point being that you are happy with the government seeing your day-to-day activity because you are happy with the current government - but what if a future government was to be led by someone/regime you didn't trust?

Well, I don't know your neighbour. But, from my PoV, the Government is just my biggest neighbour.

Not sure why you'd think it would matter to me that you said it? I am not surprised it was you, but I would feel the same way no matter who wrote it.

exactly, that is why I used "support" in place of 'trust'. Trust follows on from support and must be earned and maintained and never taken for granted.
