My wife and I had a truly memorable trip to whakapapa back in when we were still dating. Such as awesome weekend in Oohakune lodge. Now that our young one is nearly 2 we will be planning for a return trip.
My wife's a real trooper and shes been rocking a j5 prime with a cracked, replacement for months now. Would be awesome to surprise her with a new phone ( without a cracked screen).
June 2012 and we splurged and went to ZQN for a long weekend. We then splurged some more and took a helicopter flight up the top of a mountain ... somewhere. The pilot tried setting the machine down, then we lurched away in a rather ungainly fashion as he said he would have got us blown off the top of the mountain if he'd persisted in landing there. So a second attempt was made, which was successful (of course, as I'm typing this six years later) and we were set free to admire the view and throw snowballs at each other. We were completely in awe of nature up there, and thankfully our pilot was keeping a closer eye on the weather than we were, as he ordered us back to the helicopter with "now, not in 30 seconds, now". A vicious storm was blowing in from the north. We were the final flight of the day.
I want to upload a photo (under 2mb) but get this helpful message:

When i were young and in first year varsity , and toured Te Waipounamu over 2 weeks or so with me future wife in my old dunger (that i bought for $500 for the occasion). One relly in every second town and backpackers in between. -10 or so in Qtown and Mt Cook had built up beautiful hoarfrost. Sunny every single step of the way. Not enough money to go skiing. Good times. Never been on a roadtrip that long since!
When one of my brothers was getting married in Canada a few years ago, I went up early and spent some time out in the Rockies with a guide, photographing wildlife.
An Arctic storm came in and drove temperatures down as low as -46 C overnight; it was when I learned the odd qualities snow has at such low temperature when compared to what we normally experience. It never melts, so it just falls off a bit like cold white dust. Very strange.
Here's one of the photos.
(Edit - in case you don't recognise that, it's a wolf!)
Christmas in Germany is a special memory for me. Christmas Markets, bratwurst, beer and gluhwein - who could ask for more? Actually, I could. So I am heading back to Bavaria again this year to enjoy the German hospitaility and maybe a bratwurts or two washed down with quality German beer. A new phone to replace my Nexus 5X would be a bonus :)
A week in Samoa. A great way to put winter on pause for a little while.
I just came back from a "Winter" holiday - on a 10 day cruise to New Caledonia and Vanuatu. The winter temperature there was about 24 degrees :)
Been on holiday for this week, could not be arsed going anywhere so the wife and I have just been wining and dining all week.
