If nothing happens afterwards of consequence then they are free to keep on committing crimes. Also if there is no fear of what will happen when caught, then there is no fear for others to go and have the time of their lives at others expense.

Here is an example of two boys who ransacked a neighbourhood for over a year, as where ever they were put they escaped from. The last act reported in this one was cutting of fish’s heads and throwing them on the floor, plus smashing up the persons property.

https://www.chrislynchmedia.com/news-items/motherofyoungboysshockedatactions#:~:text=The%20culprits%20aged%20six%20and,fish%20from%20the%20outside%20pond.

”Police captured the boys on the same street hours later after they threatened a woman with a carving knife they had stolen from the kitchen.”

”While the boys are known to the police, their age prevented police from taking any action”

I'm confused:

The boy’s mother, who Chris Lynch Media can’t name for legal reasons, expressed deep regret for their actions, saying that she was "absolutely shocked with what I've found out they have done."

She added that her children were not prone to such behaviour and that they “loved animals” and others.

"They do have a loving and safe home, and there's absolutely no violence here or anything to demonstrate such horrible behaviour they have done.

I'm absolutely devastated for the families they have hurt and disgusted by their behaviour," she said.

The mother said she had requested support for her children for years, but Oranga Tamarki declined to help.

"I've asked them to support my children years ago. They have both been through a lot of trauma caused by Oranga Tamarki," she said.

So they're good kids, from a good home, with no violence or anything, but she's been asking for help from OT for years and they have been traumatised by OT? Something doesn't add up...

I think "Meth" is more likely to be the word you're looking for. Nobody I know that got Covid became aggressive.

New Zealand has lost its "Men". In the old days this would not have happened because others generally use to stand up to antisocial behaviour like this. Nowadays it seems everybody is too scared to do anything about anything, and would rather film a confroontation on their phones for social media likes. Sad but true.

My eldest son is a Psychologist I asked him if he had any idea what could have caused Covid to stop my migraine attacks that I had experienced since i circa 6 years old. I haven't had an attack for over 2 years after recovering form Covid. He said there is a belief that Covid-19 can impact the physical structure of the brain and in my case this maybe the cause for the migraine attacks to cease. Physical changes to brain can result in mood changes and response to certain situation, cognitive abilities and personality changes similar to those resulting from concussion.

I think you missed my point, did not mean to come across like that. And my post was about the guy in Macdonalds just helping himself. yes he should have been confronted.

I have no doubt that confronting someone in that situation would lead to violence and, with the number of firearms floating around, it could ultimately lead to a tragic outcome.

Yip, or being arrested if serious harm or injury has befallen the criminal becoming the victim... a more accurate statement is probably that society and the law have grown soft and removed the "mens" power.

And here we go again. Not a jewellery heist, but big figures. Youth aid. And despite being together and 'assisting police ' obviously don't want to rat mates. Doubt they hookup with strangers and nick a car to do this (car not found presumed dumped)

... are appealing for information on two further offenders.
...
Four young people allegedly forced open the front doors and entered the premises, taking about $140,000 of electrical equipment, including phones.
...

Two young people have assisted with our enquiries, and have been referred to Youth Aid.

Police are still working to identify and locate two further young people believed to have been involved, as well as further stolen property.

Neither the society nor the law have grown soft. Show me one example where the law has substantially reduced the punishment available to courts for theft, burglary, aggravated assault and the likes, over the last 40-50 years.

What we're seeing is the result of years and years of neglect and failed policies that have a whole generation of men and women who have grown up not to consider themselves members of the society, and not obliged by the society's rules. Amplify it by the materialistic content they consume every day on social media platforms, emanating predominantly out of the US, and you get what you get.

My 18 year old son was in Maccas with two of his team mates after a game of football on Saturday, over in a South Eastern part of Auckland - all dressed in the same tracksuits/sports gear and obviously not from the location they were in - a man came in and told him (not in this way) to please move out of the way.
My son's reply was "Sorry mate", then he moved out of his way - at which point the person threatened to smash his face in and called him a number of anti-Caucasian slurs and then grabbed a random bag of food off the counter and walked out, shouldering past my son's team mate on the way out (clearly looking for a reaction so he could "justify" beating the crap out of these kids).

It wasn't like this pre-Covid. Or at least not in the same brazen way.

Needless to say, the food the guy took wasn't his and nobody questioned him, for fear of escalation to violence.

When was "Once were warriors" set again? Mid-eighties? Nothing has change in 40 years then.

I'm guessing what the soft bit is that's referred, is the human factor is taken so seriously now, that the minimum penalties are usually handed out. Or charges downgraded because it might not fix/ruin someone's future. And can't have that. we might end up with full prisons or something.

I can only presume these young ones are doing it for the mentioned noteriety. Or pawns for those who would likely face time. Knowing they'll head to youth justice. First time offence, off you go to councillors or do some gardening.

Saw this article on the news this morning. I thought this mothers comments pretty much summed it up:

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/300873473/family-considers-leaving-nz-after-son-chased-home-threatened-with-stabbing

"As far as I understand, the offenders were referred to Youth Aid."

“It seems that the offenders are well protected with wraparound services, yet the victims receive no support,” the mother said."

So what is the solution wanted here? Put these teens in prison, give them a record and then of course don't give them a job because they have a criminal record. Then society condemns them for being on income support and alienates them.
