dman: as they haven't used their trademark for a decade, an argument could be made it has lapsed? I think something like that has done before, but the time period probably needs to be a lot longer?

I suspect that McDs only have to sell one pie under the  Georgie Pie brand at one of their outlets and the trademark  I suspect they  keep will it for the next 10+ years..

"Nostalgic former customers have accused McDonald's of killing the Georgie Pie brand and a "Bring Back Georgie Pie" Facebook page has more than 54,000 member"

Sure... 54,000 "Likes" doesn't mean "members". Some of them probably clicked the Like button thanks to peer pressure and forgot about that.

Some people...

If anyone knows Grant Duffield from Whakatane who went around the North Island doing the Bring Back Georgie Pie petition, Seven Sharp wants to talk to him

http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/7945695/Campaigner-pleads-for-Georgie-Pie-return

They asked me on Twitter as I tweeted Grant the herald link

Isn't that how modern marketing works these days.  Your measured by the number of likes on Facebook??

sbiddle: If they don't renew it then yes, you copuld register the name.

The problem is it's a flawed business model. GP went bust and primarily because of the high costs. They had large premises, large numbers of staff and in the end were selling $1 products with an average customer sale of $1 - $2 which was far too low to be making money.

Jesters have tried to revive the pie fast food model....but at $4 for a fairly non-descript food item...they did not sweep all before them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Georgie Pies are to be sold at McCafe for $4+

Gotta be that McDs will be selling 'Georgie Pie' branded pies in their stores, no way they will re-start the chain

And yep, won't be cheap

...And the current generation of teenage fast food folk don't have any memories of what Georgie Pie was...our how it tasted. And that's the client base you'd be wanting to appeal to I'd think.......

The generation that does have moved along the food chain.

yeah big chunk of drunken nostalgia attached to georgie pie for me : )

ie. akl uni student in the late 80's where fri = $4 jugs in shadows (of rheineck = urrrggghhh) + some dodgy band + legendary games of whizz/boing/bang/alpha/bounce played under international drinking rules of course + equally drunk female uni students + a little chunder in albert park + (2 x georgie pie mince and cheese pies + 2 x fries = $4) + last bus home = win (i think)

had to be better than a budgie meal - which by fri was made of god knows what :)

ahhh memories :)

ps: even if the new ones are the same (and possibly crap) the rose tinted memories remain : )

Whose actually going to buy them? I never liked their pies, although I hardly ever eat pies these days. I think people care more these days about what they eat, and people tastes have changed. It was a cheap student food at the time.

I like Jesters Pies. I can't stand the smell in McD's and there is only 1 thing I eat there and that's a hamburger with Mayo and extra pickle, always from the drive through and only about twice a year.
