Ok, look over places like facebook and its not hard to find groups/causes to bring back georgie pie

I was just having a look at the Intellectual Property office site, found out on it that McDonalds owns the rights to it at present but they expire on 12 November 2011.
So we likely to see McDonalds reminded of this and have them purchase the rights for another 10 or so years or could someone sneek in and grab them so we can finally see the return of the great georgie pie? Smile

If they don't renew it then yes, you copuld register the name.

The problem is it's a flawed business model. GP went bust and primarily because of the high costs. They had large premises, large numbers of staff and in the end were selling $1 products with an average customer sale of $1 - $2 which was far too low to be making money.

I'd pay circa $4 for a Georgie Pie. Thats what you can expect to pay for a decent pie these days.

Sure, but would you classify GP as "decent" pies?!

GP's problem was it went from a Auckland/Upper north island outfit to a national chain in about a year, they  borrowed a whole pile of money to do it and they found they couldn't replicate the profitabiity of the well established Auckland lcoations  in the new stores.

As an aside I see that Tui are now making/branding pies as part of their ever growing global empire

If you go the the shopping mall in Papatoetoe in South Auckland and look at the signs above the side road door there is still a Georgie Pie sign there.

Nahh they didn't go broke! They were part of the Progressive group, and McDonalds put in bid to buy them to wipe them out as competition. That happened in 1996 and the last store closed in 2001... A tragedy in history as great as the sinking of the Titanic.. :(

*gains weight just thinking about it*
I think it's the last thing this country needs, LOL
I don't actually remember their pies being any good to begin with to be honest!
Tell ya what though; it'd be a darn fruitful business venture if done properly... the return of Georgie Pie would be quite a big deal, depending on how it's executed and marketed.
