Being made redundant after 49 years in multiple roles but with the same company.

Did you get a good redundancy payment?

Only after involving a lawyer, twice.

And as "made redundant" just expected to slink out the door with no fanfare or acknowledgement.

I've been asked 3 times over the past year if I have a gold card. I'm 10 years away. Sigh

I've had a gold card for nearly two years but pretty sure that I haven't been asked for it or even used it.

I must go to the wrong places.

Do you mean you’ve asked for Gold Card privileges but never been asked to produce the card?

IMO the Gold Card discounts are generally pretty underwhelming and hardly worth the effort. However I did once get $17 off a food processor at Noel Leeming.

The exception - and the best part - in Auckland - is the access to the Gold AT Hop card. This gives free public transport including the ferry to Waiheke (usually $55 return). And when you get there, the buses to the wineries for the tastings are free too. Brilliant.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I have never tried to use the card.

I get the impression a lot of retailers sign up for the Gold Card discount program as a form of virtue-signaling. It ‘looks good’ but what they are offering in reality is FA.

Woolworths make a thing about 5%-off for Supers on Tuesdays - “at selected stores”. What this really means is “only where there is local competition”. In our area, there are no other supermarkets neaby - so our local Ww doesn’t do it.

I was early enough in the game when Xtra started around 1996...

I can still remember that 20 hours (or similar) free xtra signup cd and the imagery on the cd itself circa 1995 and the website itself being similar.  Also remember getting ihug and being stoked about getting flat rate internet rather than hourly

You mentioned earlier that ‘I haven't been asked for it’. I guess no-one is going to ask you for it if you aren’t trying to access the discounts. It doesn’t work that way.

Maybe, but I often get asked if I have Airpoints or other loyalty cards. I would have thought that a shop offering a Goldcard discount would prompt older customers.

That’s a good and fair point - I get asked about those too. I retract and apologise.

No problems.

Maybe I don't look old enough to have a Goldcard?

I did get asked if I had a Gold Card in Resenes as I presented my Resenes card. The assistant told me the discount was better on the Gold Card...
