wellygary:
richms: It was a vauge and stupid wording of it, but it had something about connecting to multiple users in it and the general view is that its not supposed to cover hosting based downloads. You cant prove that anyone made a copy of things just by the fact that there is a http request either.

a) material is uploaded via, or downloaded from, the Internet using an application or network that enables the simultaneous sharing of material between multiple users; and(b) uploading and downloading may, but need not, occur at the same time

A web browser is not an application that enables simultaneous sharing of materials between multiple users.

The server the file is hosted on might count, but it would be brave to assume that a browser met that requirement.

Opera counts, as it features Unite - a fully fledged web server ;)

LennonNZ: At the moment I will not give distribution rights to the file.

Sorry. - Craig

cws82us: I made my own copyright thing too http://www.assaultaddicts.co.nz/copyright.txt

DylanReeve: Guys, I have created a copy of the file which you can download at http://dylanreeve.com/lennon-copyright.txt - I promise I won't turn over your IP details!!!

I'm a bit lost about how to make an income in New Zealand.

Mr Craig has promoted the existence of his works on two high profile internet sites today.  But he will not make the work available for sale, robbing me of the chance to make an income.
Mr cws82us has offered all my potential customers a work for nothing.  While is product is local, have a look at it... it's hardly worth as much as he charged my potential customers (sorry Mr cws, no offense intended to you personally, but your product is crap).
Mr Dylan has offered my potential customers a way to get a re-branded version of Mr Craigs product for free.

It seems the only way I can make an income is by setting up an ISP and charging customers to provide a service which will let them break the law...

But, the government has passed a law that's going to impact interest in my service, and the industry and media are pushing hype to make sure it will drive away customers.

This from what I can see, has been done for content produces like Mr Craig without gaining a commitment from said rights holders to make their product available in New Zealand at a reasonable price and/or control the promotion of their product in my market.

Oh well...  it's luck it's election year and we can vote in a new government who will over turn the entire law and put rights holders back in their place.

In the mean time...  WINZ office is looking good. :)

I think we should produce an open source version Mr. lennon's fine work. I'm going to start a project which I will name Coopyright which will consist of some words you may combine in any order you feel will give you a fully customized Copyright solution. Here are some words to get started:

Please note that the GNU implementation of Flange contains options incompatible with the Copyright System V standard syntax.

Mr Salty can we talk about a hosting solution for you and I'd be interested in the advertising rights on the site.

Do you have a domain name sorted out or are you just going to host on one of those free .us platforms like sourceforge?

what about if we clean room reverse engineered it and made that open source? We could remove options for payment and insert references to free beer.

I chose not to download it, but if you could release a PDF of it on the Kindle market, I might buy it off you

Clicked it when someone posted it on Twitter. Not P2P/filesharing unfortunately.

If you can get Kindle rights, can you let me know?  I'll still be keen to look at rights for other platforms.

I can only assume that Mr Craig is just busy working on other markets, but is using our unserviced market to drive up interest so he can forge a better deal in the bigger markets?

Ugh, all true geeks know that only EPUB gives you the complete freedom that information desires. Mr Lennon could revoke your Kindle version at any time, even after you've paid for it. How is THAT fair!?
