Handle9: I don’t know if I’m happy or annoyed but I’ve paid my tax bill for last year.

Well, be happy of course! Because as long as you pay taxes, you have an income.

Nah. What really makes me happy is my main income is entirely tax free.

Courier just dropped off the new parts for our ageing Dyson V8 stick vac.
New battery and roller brush for the turbo head.

Simple to fit, quick delivery and relatively cheap for genuine parts.

What really made me smile is the fact that I had forgotten just how pwerful the vacuum actually was when new. We'd gotten used to it being a bit rubbish...as it turns out, it's been entirely down to the degredation of the battery and the almost brushless head.

WOW! For a unit that originally cost us somewhere around $700 new on sale, adding $150 of new parts has just saved us getting a new vac at $1000+

Fantastic.

The thread the other day re Panda Mart recalls prompted me to quickly look at the official product recalls site. One of the first which was displayed was for certain Toshiba laptop chargers (degradation of an internal part over the long term could result in a fire). Surprisingly, my laptop charger is included, even though my laptop is 12 years old. So I filled out the form on Friday and then this morning a box was delivered with a brand new charger. :) Efficient and props to Toshiba/Dynabook for diligently supporting their products.

We've just had the same experience with our Dyson V8, but I grabbed an adapter from Aliexpress and now can swap out Ryobi batteries and keep going - great when doing a big clean and not wanting to have a break to recharge. The only thing I've been told to look out for is overheating the motor.

I looked at those, but as they weren't genuine parts, I was worried about it shorting or catching fire - there was one that would fit my Black and Decker batteries that I already have, but I opted for the genuine Dyson batteries for safety and all that.
Next time I may go down the adaptor route.

To be honest: I still haven't understood why people buy these overpriced, noisy, annoying jet engines. The spare parts I have already 3D-printed for friends. We still use a Miele hoover from 1998, which hasn't needed a single spare part and vacuums like the first day - albeit with vacuum cleaner bags and fine filters that have to be replaced occasionally. And with a maintenance free power cable.😉

Hand inside the Turkey removing giblets and was reminded of Mr Bean with the Turkey stuck on his head because he couldn’t reach in far enough.

Was trying to convince Miss 14 to have present opening tonight instead of Christmas morning when Turkey needs stuffing and a zillion other things need doing before the hordes arrive. She wouldn’t accept it. Was told, 'you can’t mess with traditions.'  Tried explaining that we know there’s no Santa anymore and 5 am waking of the bleary eyed is so unnecessary. Nope…it’s on tomorrow.

Looking forward to tomorrow night bedtime even though the same lot will turn up next day for leftovers, it’s more relaxed.

Zigg: Some of the answers from this Noel Leeming tech are slightly amusing

https://grownups.co.nz/interests/technology-solutions/you-asked-tech-expert-toby-answered-your-tech-related-questions-software-and-hardware/

Photo is a bit off though, he looks like a mechanic, or an employee of a plumbing franchise.  For a geek it should be a model wearing glasses holding a soldering iron by the barrel and poking a motherboard.

cddt: degradation of an internal part over the long term

It'll be a capacitor. It's always capacitors.

I’ve been badgered by GZ two days in a row. Unexpected Christmas gifts. 😀
