JayADee: I watched a few more Mr. Robots on you guys' say-so. Ok, I'll watch a bit more based on those. I have to see how the phone call ends if nothing else! Plus there's an upcoming reference to Python...

How comedic is it?  Im not into half serious half comedies.

Looking at Sens8

I've watched Sense8 and felt that while the premise was quite interesting and the acting well done, the LGBT agenda of the Wachowski siblings was a little forceful at times. It didn't necessarily add to the story line enough, for me, to warrant it's presence. Perhaps it's just because no other show i've seen had that component to such a degree; I don't know. It's worth watching, but don't go into it blind.

The way I came away from it was thinking that just because someone makes a show heavily featuring LGBT elements that are important to them, does not make it inherently great solely through social justice.  It's got to have good writing, and it's got to have a balanced story where everything fits in.  And the longer I watched it, I felt like consistency and believability (in the context of their ideas) were thrown out the window in favour of the Wachowski siblings personal agendas.  It's a pity, because if they had held themselves back and kept some balance/consistency I think this could have been great instead of wish-washy.

I think people are better going into it blind, because they might enjoy it longer and not notice the heavy handedness before it wears thin.

I haven't watched Sense8, but have the Wachowskis done anything decent since the first Matrix?

Not in my opinion, I was just thinking the same thing myself.  But I would recommend the early part of Sense8 if you're willing to abandon it and not finish it, when it gets unwatchable.

Just finished season one of Stranger Things on Netflix. As a child of the 80's it really has nostalgia appeal, a great plot and has a good horror/thriller atmosphere.

  • Stranger Things - loved it, I didn't get that it was an homage to 80s movies at first and liked it much more once I accepted that
  • Preacher - I absolutely loved this series, I deliberately went into it not knowing anything about the comic or the story. I'm really looking forward to the second season
  • Mr Robot - loved the first season, I think the second is dragging a bit - they need to improve the pacing
  • Man Down - I'm a huge fan of (huge) Greg Davies
  • Dark Matter - it's no Expanse but it's decent B-Grade scifi and watchable.

I'm rewatching some older shows at the moment because there's not much else on - Frasier and The Wire, I didn't appreciate Frasier as much the first time I watched it years ago.

Apparently there's 3 new Big Fat Quizes of Everything starting shortly as well as Would I Lie To You (the UK version). New Red Dwarf starts in a couple of weeks but I'm not that excited, it hasn't been good since season 6.

Oh yeah, TV shows i've enjoyed.

- The Night Of - Crime drama mini series with John Turturro. Really enjoying its vibe. The part was originally written for James Gandolfini fyi.

- The Expanse - Not a bad sci-fi premise. Season 2 will be interesting. If you like

Just watched the end of series 3 of Blacklist, recorded whilst I was away.

Excellent - aside from the fact that the ghastly Liz is still alive. It was just getting interesting after we were freed from her overly sincere whining. Now she will be back in the next series. Hurumph.

James Spader is excellent as always.

Considering she is one of the two main characters you were very wishful there. Personally I preferred the first half of the season while they were on the run and she was slightly less idealistic, but I'll be back to see how S4 starts off.

She really is the least realistic FBI officer I can imagine - a wet liberal hand-wringer. Spader's acting makes her look like a 12 year old in a school play. Bad casting by someone.

Other series have lost major characters (Ned Stark, anyone?) so I was hopeful she was really toast!

Anybody else think the music in The Blacklist is very well done? And by the way it sounds amazing in 5.1.  There are only a few shows where I find the music and hence the mood of the show seem to have been really thought out.

My wife loves the theme to Bosch, as well as the titles. They are very well done.

Just binged The Expanse, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked it so much I'm trying to decide if I should start reading the books.

I've read the first 2 and currently reading the third, while it's a bit different from the series they're still excellent and explain some of the bits that I missed in the series (like why the Belters talk with their hands so much, it's because you can't see their facial expressions with a helmet on).
