For years I have wanted to add smart functionality to the lights in our lounge. My wife has been extremely opposed to the cost and argued we can get up and turn the lights on or off or dim them ourselves.

After adding smarts to our lounge and being able to say 'amazon, lights on' or 'amazon dim lights', she finally sees what all the fuss is about and made a rare consession I may have been right.

I think it's a trap. If you don't hear from me by next week, send help!

My currently unemployed, recently graduated from filmschool, youngest son fully embracing the gig economy:

He's spending some spare time creating maps for Fortnite - so far he's earned about $1000 from that endeavour, while just faffing about - he's going to do more.
Also - he's a quite accomplished video editor in his spare time, so he's going to set himself up as a freelance editor and start taking on small projects there, while he looks for work in the actual field he wants to be involved in, which is film and television production.

Makes me smile, as he hates it when we try to give him advice, but he secretly takes it onboard then suddenly has these epiphonies, that have niothing to do with what we said! 😄

Not a new years resolution as it happened prior, but I am 6 weeks into the gym now, averaging about 2.5 times a week. Starting to up the weights and definitely noticing a difference to body composition.  The first couple were grim, but now if I don't go regularly, I really notice I get antse.

The new album (Sharon van Etten & The Attachment Theory) of US singer Sharon van Etten … she has found an ‘idiot box’ in her country. 😉

I started a year ago in my mid 50s, going with a similar frequency to you in response to a shoulder sprain. Within the first couple of months, I noticed improvements in muscle size and tone.

Today, I looked at the weights I was lifting a year ago, and now I'm lifting near double what I was lifting a year back. Still not that much, but a vast improvement and very good for the ego and for motivation. I have noticeable muscles here and there now, which is nice. I also just feel better all-round. And I am sleeping so much better.

I get the same thing - if I don't go, I feel a bit off. Being self-employed also has the benefit of me being able to go mid-morning when the gym is near empty. No waiting for machines or anything.

For anyone turned off by the idea of the gym, worried about looking silly, I have been blown away by how chill and accepting everyone is - from the fully jacked gym-bro through to the over-80s. I should have started decades ago, but better late than never.

I have a large garden with lots of terracing, retaining walls, and large trees.  Gym?  Pshaw!

I’ve been travelling this week for work.

it’s been a good week but I’m looking forward to getting back home and escaping the German winter.

Here in the north, that‘s no winter at all.

Miss 13 has done her advanced open water dive course this week. She’s had a great time and come back absolutely fizzing. It’s nice when you put some money and time into your kids and they have experiences that they love.

I'm not a diving expert but I'm pretty sure that fizzing is not a good sign.  :-p
