A nod to @gehenna, who created this thread.

Currently this is the oldest thread still alive on Geekzone - created in May 2008, still going strong 17 years later.

Looking at the comments from page 1 and the movies reviewed were Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull and Ironman was playing at the movies!

Clearly film makers have not learned their lesson as there have been too many "nuke the fridge" moments since!

Watched a couple of movies over the weekend.

Just can't for the life of me remember what they were.

I do love it when a movie leaves a lasting impression on me.

I just remembered one of the movies I watched with my wife in the weekend!

Ice Road: Vengeance.

A Liam Neeson special set in the Himalayas, where Neeson's character (a truck driver from America with an inexplicable Irish accent) is set to spread his brothers' ashes on Mt Everest.

Some stuff happens and other stuff also happens, then Neeson's character teams up with a pretty young half-Sherpa guide to defeat the bad guys.

A lot of time is dedicated to the bus they're on (The Kiwi Express, complete with NZ flag) and it's driver, Spike - a NZer (with an inexplicably strong Australian accent) who now lives in Kathmandu and drives tourists on his wee bus.
We thought maybe they'd mixed up the AU and NZ flags at first, but then he says "Kia Ora, Whanau" and wears a Pounamu necklace (and of course then you discover the bus is called Kiwi Express).

It's a pretty rubbish film, which was obviously just a payday for an ageing Neeson to set up his retirement.

I'd give it a solid 4/10.

Would have to support this recomendation with a solid 3.....it was a crapper of a watch, the CGI must have really tested the Commodore64 it looked to be produced with

OK, it seems last week was my week for bad movie choices. Superman 2025. IMDb 7.2, Me 6/10, my partner 5/10.

David Corenswet as Superman came across as too comical. Krypto, Superman's dog, was just an overgrown puppy and so stupid. If this was meant to be a serious Superman movie, it fails big time as it is a comedy sci-fi drama.

Jimmy Olson comes across as a hormonally driven teenager, not the earnest cub reporter we all know, and there are a couple of other newsroom actors who are just forgettable. Wendell Pierce as Perry White, the Daily Planet Chief Editor, is OK and just walks through his role.

There are only two characters, and the actors that played them, that are standouts. Rachel Brosnahan as Louis Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Watched Honey, Don't! last weekend.

An attempt at a modern day detective noir, with a woman in the main role. Quite funny in places, sad in others. The story was ok. We gave it a 5/10.

Tried to watch True American Horror - 1/10.

Its a doco about American paranormal incidents.

Thing is, its a horror that this was ever produced.

The voiceover is so monotone you'd swear its AI reading from Wikipedia (but its not).

But the imagery is 99% AI generated.

Turned it off after 10mins.

The Conjuring : Last Rites 6/10

If you're expecting a decent horror, then look elsewhere. Story wise it was ok, but more doco than horror experience.

F1: The Movie 7/10:

I'm not really an F1 fan, although I do watch it occasionally, so I went into this with an open mind. I have to say that I enjoyed it more than I thought that I would.

The excellent racing scenes elevate a fairly predictable storyline, and helps to lift the film above the average racing movie.

Brad Pitt is his usual charismatic self. Javier Bardem also puts in a good performance as the owner of the failing F1 enterprise that Pitt's character (Sonny Hayes) attempts to improve their low standing in the sport. The rest of the cast do a good job as well.

The run time of about 2½ hours passes fairly quickly, with the racing scenes really pulling me into the movie.

Ten quickies, no spoilers :)

F1 The Movie - not really that much to do with real life F1 but Kosinski's best film since Oblivion 7.5/10

Superman 2025 - surprisingly good 7/10

The Life of Chuck - a Good Stephen King adaptation 8/10

The Old Guard 2 - typical NF dreck - not likely to be part 3 4/10

The Accountant 2 - zzzzz 5/10

Ballerina - would have rather seen a full length Paloma film than this - 5/10

Nobody 2 - first one was a fluke 5/10

The Fantastic Four First Steps - best Marvel film of the last decade 7.5/10

Weapons - original and scary, a delightful watch  8.5/10

I saw Serenity at the Embassy in Wellington last night.  Has held up surprisingly well- although the sound mix was pretty poor.

My 13 year old son enjoyed it (as did my 24 year old daughter who noted that she hadn't seen it for at least 10 years, and how she was really old!  Also said it made her want to rewatch Dollhouse).

BUT - there was 25 minutes of ads before the movie started - of which only a couple were movie previews - the rest were straight up advertising for various products (which I cant even remember what they were for).  The audience was getting increasingly impatient and annoyed.
