The New Zealand collective hatred of dogs annoys me.

Not heard of the one before, I think we are very much a dog liking nation. Staffy's and other fighting bred dogs, not so much

Really? You think a nation where dogs are banned from almost every public space, national park, open area, pub, CBD, hotel, camp ground etc is a "dog liking nation"?

It is due to bad dog owners

And we're not in Europe, where they let dogs into places wer don't.

And soo onto a wee thing that annoys me.....
Folk who want things to be the same in this country as the one they came from.
(And I'll qualify that by saying I've lived/worked out of NZ in a more than a few countries)

Agreed. And they say dogs are like their owners - my Hungarian Vizsla absolutely hates flies with a vengeance!

Why should they be worse here than say the USA, where dogs are allowed in many hotels and even in the cabin on domestic flights? Is there some fundamental difference in behaviour between NZers and Americans in this respect?

There is barely room for humans in cattle class on aircraft last thing we need is smelly animals

Most people smell worse than most animals, unless the animals are wet, unlikely in the cabin of a plane.

Perhaps because in NZ animals travel in the cargo hold ( I've seen; live cats, sheep, horses, eels, and crayfish come off planes, and have sent my own dog this way as well)
Perhaps its because we're a young country, and historically our dogs have been working dogs rather than fufu dogs.
Perhaps its simply because its the law.

Still a small thing that seems to annoy both sides.

Cat poo on my lawn.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

They have a hard time doing that if there's a lawn in the way. They also tend to get blamed for the deposits of other animals.

There are no dogs in our neighbourhood but many many many cats, every god dammed day we have to clean up the mess. Unfortunately I cannot due to my suppressed immune system.

Their mess is more than just annoying it is a very real health hazard for me.

We have tried many cat repellents etc without success, maybe my sons suggestion of a shotgun may be the answer

I am very sorry to hear that. I happen to like cats but the situation you describe is not something to make light of. I wish I could offer you a solution. I'm not sure of the situation where you live, but out here we see the leavings of possums and probably weasels and stoats as well as cats. I wasn't thinking of dogs so much. Maybe you could modify your shotgun idea and get one of those high-pressure water guns and put a little ammonia into the water to make something really unpleasant to the nose of any animal it hits. If a cat experiences that a couple of times, it is unlikely to come back.

Sistema plastic food containers.

They leak, you can't stack them and they're impossible to wash and dry properly.

Not sure if this one has been mentioned yet but... when you do a wash and someone has left a paper tissue in a pocket.

James Bond: Not sure if this one has been mentioned yet but... when you do a wash and someone has left a paper tissue in a pocket.

Argh - I consider myself fairly easy going, but there's something about laundry that presses my buttons. I could probably fill a thread just with things that annoy me about laundry.

  • People who leave tissues in pockets.
  • People who put something coloured in with the whites.
  • People who don't read garment care labels and stick delicate handwashing in a heavy cycle with a load of towels.
  • People who put more "dry flat in shade" stuff in the washing than I have flat shady space to put it.
  • People who put stuff in the wash when it doesn't need it (my daughter will put on a pair of jeans, wear them around the house for a couple of hours, then throw them in the laundry basket).
  • People who don't put stuff in the wash then need something washed urgently as soon as you have finished a whole week's worth of laundry.
  • People who don't know how to hang stuff up on a washing line.
  • People who know how to hang stuff up on a washing line but can't be bothered doing it.
  • Whoever installed the washing line at my house five feet off the ground, so I had to duck and squat under it to hang things up (since rectified).
  • Birds who $#!+ on the washing while it's on the line.
  • Cat hair. On everything.
