People using "speaker" mode on their phone in public places.

I've had 2 in the last week, in a cafe and a queue at a wildlife park*.

They usually get the hint when I get closer and start speaking loudly..

Something along the lines of "what sort rude f***ng pr**k would use f****ng speaker phone in a public effing place"... loud enough for the person on the other end of the phone to hear me and say something.

(*there were no kids around, I was lining up to pay for something).

People who can't communicate in a civil manner over something small that annoys them.

Rikkitic:

(Not so) small annoyance: professional illiteracy. Today there is a big banner headline in our local paper about "Our scorching(!) ocean". I do wish newpaper editors, if there still are any, would teach the school drop-outs they hire as cheap journalists how on-line dictionaries work. I have seen this particular malapropism before. Scorch means to lightly burn something on the surface, as in char or sear. A steak or sausage can be scorched on the barbie. An ocean cannot. In fact, water is one of the antonyms for scorch. Why do I feel I am shouting into the wilderness?

Your comment regarding literacy is somewhat ironic because the error to which you refer is not a malapropism. It’s simply an incorrect or inappropriate adjective.

I bow to your superior wisdom. You are absolutely right! I was thinking of something else.

Nah - never superior wisdom - maybe superior pedantry.

Trying to place an in store pickup order with JB Hifi. And their website only showing me store options that are within 200Km of a completely incorrect IP address location lookup.

Had to search by postcode to get it to show the store whose name was an exact match of the suburb that I originally entered into the store search box.

I was trying to think of some fighting words to test the theory but I gave up

Similar to @Rikkitic's point: The use of "youthspeak" in releases and interviews by people who should be professional Press Officers etc such as "It is beyond tragic that X has happened."

What is beyond tragic? Uber tragic? Mega tragic? Giganto Tragic?

No. The expression is simply "It is tragic that X has happened."

Enough of this now.

You should be allowed to disphone such people and destroy the offending handset in return for a cash reward. Likewise people who walk along playing music on their phone over the speaker...

If only that were the case - I don't think it is, as it happens on desktop, tablet and phone!

NZ Post increasing the yearly price of a private PO Box. $170? Really? I know people are posting less letters, but Jeez, talk about a way to drive your customers away.

They have rising costs like every business. Staff salary increases, rent increases. If it's costing them more to provide it, and already are not doing great financially I guess the alternative is to stop offering it.

I know what you're saying, just it's a lot of money (for me). I think I'll start making a list of companies that still send letters and see if they can send it electronically or to another address. I would get stuff sent to my home address but the mailbox on my street isn't overly secure, unfortunately.
