I'm not sure whether this really annoys me or makes me smile, neither or both.

I was looking into getting a satellite phone as I spend a fair bit of time with clients outside cell coverage, so it's a safety tool.

A top end sat phone handset now costs less than an iPhone....!

Geektastic: On a cheese related note, I bought some 24 month aged Comté from our local cheesemonger the other day. Absolutely fabulous.

We have spent some extended time in France in the past three years on home exchanges and have often bought Comté cheeses. It’s wonderful - one of my favorite cheeses - but have never bought it in NZ.

Certainly visit C'est Cheese in Featherston if you get a chance.

Huge variety of cheese, which is stored and packed properly.

Also many other Deli items from round the world.

IMO Steve Irwin was a brash clown who harassed wild animals. He ‘lived by the sword and died by the sword’ - he deserved everything he got and I had no sympathy for him.

I liked Irwin. I think he probably did a lot to raise awareness and appreciation of less lovable animal species, like snakes and crocodiles, and probably made significant contributions to conservation efforts. I say 'probably' because I don't really know. That is just my impression.

Edit to add: PETA says "Wild animals are entitled to be left alone in their natural habitats." Sure they are, but the world doesn't do that, and the habitats are shrinking and the animals are disappearing. As long as that is the case, people like Steve Irwin fulfil a useful and necessary function by involving animals in entertainment to raise money so sanctuaries like Australia Zoo can keep at least a few of them alive and give them a better existence than they would otherwise have. And along the way hopefully teaching people enough about them that they are treated better in the future.

Avril Lavignes new album.

Watching my 6 year old tell off a man who was being very rude to a waitress at a restaurant we were dining in. Entirely to his credit he took that like a champ and apologised to them both :)

Phoning VF this morning and giving Sky the heave-ho.

I will miss a few of the things like History and Discovery but not the bills.

I would dearly love to give Sky the heave-ho - but it’s those two channels plus some of the car restoration shows on Turbo that keep me there.

I woke up yesterday to find a shipping notification for something I'd bought from Hong Kong. It arrived this afternoon.
