It makes me smile when you go to the supermarket the day of the storm, which never really came for our part of the country, and you find all the really healthy choices missing from the shelves and freezers:
Instant Noodles, Baked Beans and canned spaghetti, hash browns, frozen chips, toilet paper, white bread, milk (thankfully nobody likes to pay through the nose for my choice of milk - A2), any and all kinds of rice and pasta and instant packet foods, like macaroni cheese, cake mix etc.

What were people stocking up for? The Great Convenience Food Shortage of 2026?
Plenty of vegetables and fruit left, and grainy breads, low fat and low sugar options galore - emergencies are obviously best served with a healthy slice of heart disease and obesity.

Made me smile. I wanted Vogels, A2, Bananas, Lettuce and tomatoes, eggs and other things that were all readily available. Good times indeed.

Victor Orban has been ousted as president of Hungary after 16 years.

He’s the Hungarian Trump and had JD Vance come and campaign for him. He’s also aligned with Putin and has blocked a lot of EU initiatives

It does show that, despite the current wave of populism around the world, it won’t be forever

Good riddance.

On a related note: the infamous "Bjelkemander" worked for about 2 decades. Until it didn't.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Got an email this morning from Amazon. I sent my brother in the USA a shirt for his birthday.

“We noticed your recent delivery from Amazon was delivered late, so we've issued a $10.81 gift card to your account for the shipping charges.”

Imagine how quickly couriers in NZ would go bust if they had to do that…!

 (cough) iMile.

I ordered something from Temu. It arrived late. Temu credited $5 to my account. You can bet it'll come out of iMile's pocket.

If you ignore the daily "disasters" in the mainstream media and focus only on the truly serious ones, you can enjoy each day relatively carefree – just like in the old days when the media was incredibly slow and you still got the essentials.

Knowing something faster doesn't necessarily mean a sensible solution will be found any faster. 😁

I can't find my post now, but I remember complaining (a while ago) about websites that hijack the Back button to take you to their home page instead of back to Google or wherever. Now Google has designated it "malicious" and may punish websites that do it. Some good news out of Google for a change!

The speed with which you can set up a new Apple TV set top box.

Plug it in, bring the iPhone nearby and boom - it's pretty much all done for you.

I also like that if you have two Apple TVs in the same house you can synchronise their home screens. Download a new streaming app to one of them or organise the home screen and the next time you use the Apple TV in another room they match.

Would be great if you could simultaneously watch the same thing on two different ATV's  - i.e. one in the bedroom and one in the lounge, watching the same show at the same time.
