You must have missed the public service announcement about US English too. Radio news announcers suddenly started describing methamphetamine as "meth" this week, rather than "P", and sports announcers have for a while pronounced debut as "deboo" instead of "debyoo". Not sure why this sudden switch - is there something wrong with the old words/pronunciation?
MikeB4:
The whole world speaks American
You know that's not true ..... innit!
Rikkitic:
A small thing that is really starting to annoy me is a good Kiwi site like Geekzone using an American spell checker to flag all of my perfectly correct UK English as faulty. Of course this is also widespread across the Internet but the implied assumption that the entire world belongs to America and that the American way of doing things is the only correct one grates more and more. I don't like it with the backwards dates and I don't like it with the many technical sites that seem to think the entire world uses NTSC TV and requires 110 volts @ 60 hertz and I don't like it with the spelling and all the other aspects of US cultural imperialism. In spite of the best efforts of John Key, we are not yet a state of the US. Could we please at least have our own language here?
You have to know when you have been culturally colonized. Now please repeat after me:
"Sidewalk", "April 1, 2016", "Vacation", "Hood", "Trunk", "Fall", "Fahrenheit", "One hundred two dollars", "Fourteen feet", "62 inches", "7 fluid ounces", "55 gallon drum", "Freshman", "In the 5th grade"
(That's all of the Americanisms I can think of at this early hour.)

In the southern states, oil is orl
Quite cool that our gallon is bigger than their gallon, about 25%
Rikkitic: I still wish everything did not default to US.
I was surprised - but grateful - when Microsoft added UK spelling to Windows 8 and 10!
I got one ... DOnald Trump!
Rikkitic:Hmm what annoys me is people with superiority complexes? Geekzone isn't checking anything your browser does it based on the OS language which is always English-US by default.

Control Panel/Regional Language /Options change language to English New Zealand and time/date to whatever you want. In FireFox look in Preferences/Content/ page language.

Not sure where the superiority complex comes in but it wasn't the OS, but a Chrome browser setting I had overlooked. Fred99 set me straight and I thanked him for it.

OMG, I just saw one of my aforementioned Americanisms in a Stuff article:
George Street's [in Palmerston North] sidewalks will be taken over by Viva la Vida Fiesta this Saturday.
Transport For Christchurch website!
Why create a website with such inaccurate info!
It was over a week after the street was dug up last year for Enable's fibre that details were posted! And NO the residents weren't advised!
As of now supposedly my street has been Road Closed since the 14th of last month! Yet not a sign or works anywhere!
Hope it still means it will be finished by 1st of May!
When people talk about car petrol tank size as some indicator of fuel economy.
"My new car is really economic, it only cost's $40 to fill the tank."
That annoys me.
Friken cafe tables that wobble. Just on Sunday we were at a cafe and our table had a hell of a wobble, I did say to them about they may like to get it fixed but just got a meh reply.
They just annoy the hell out of me, how hard is it to have a stable table.
