nova: 13/13 - but really it is a pretty easy test, the most interesting part was looking at the breakdown of the sample American test takers. I was quite gobsmacked by how few people knew the breakdown of gases in the atmosphere.

If you want something harder (for us kiwis), then do the news iq test:

Ouch.

The 5 questions I got wrong were all photos of random American politicians (ok well perhaps one of them wasn't quite so random, and I really should have got it right, but I'd be quite impressed if someone here got full marks on that test, without cheating or guessing)

10/13 on the news quiz, most of randoms were guesses

11/13 on that test, 3 were guesses so I must have got one of those right, most of the other questions I knew from watching the daily show/colbert report on a regular basis.

100%, rudimentary stuff given my background.

EDIT: 11/13 for the very US-centric news quiz. Two I had no idea about whatsoever, another couple where I could eliminate half the options.

just goes to show how many of us watch Star Trek LOL basics of an M class planet

for me I scored an 12/13 got the electron Q wrong but not bad for no school Cert or any other quals

Believe it or not I got that right partly because it was mentioned in an episode of WKRP in Cincinnati and was explained in such a clear way I never forgot.

When I got to the atmosphere question I had a sneaking suspicion if people were going to fall down it would be on that one. The chemical reaction one was a goody too. I've done a few uni papers (English, law, psych) but don't have anywhere near a degree and left college 31 years ago.

Edit: fixed some spelling, damn tablet...

13/13 seemed pretty easy.

So I'm in the top 7%. Have to bear in mind though, 7% of the US population is well over 20 million people. So 7% of the US is 4 times the entire population of little NZ, approximately the population of Aussie.

13 out of 13. I did have to guess slightly with the atmosphere one. Initial thought was carbon dioxide, but thought that was stupid as we would all be dead. Went with Nitrogen for the win. Would have been a fun day when fire was discovered if the atmosphere was mostly Oxygen or Hydrogen.

*edit* maybe discovered is a better word choice than invented.
