I love my smartphone, but I hate when people expect you to answer their txt or social media messages straight away.

That comes down to training.
DarthKermit:She told me the meat wagon crew was able to use her thumb print to unlock her phone (that's pretty neat, I didn't know they could do that)
What do you mean? They would have just pushed her thumb against the sensor and it would have unlocked.
What I basically said. Rather than needing a PIN, you can put your thumb on some part of it and it unlocks. I didn't know about that as I don't follow that technology much at all.

Oh. My bad. I assumed everyone knew about that. It's been a feature for a fair few years. There's also facial recognition unlock too - a $70 Alcatel One-Touch POP C7 I had as a hotspot even had it.
Ok, all good then! Is that on all new phones or just Apples? The friend I mentioned has an apple phone.
My partner got a new Samsung what-ever-it-was in 2017. Trust me, I wouldn't even know how to switch it on. It's quite hard to pry her away from it usually.

It's pretty common. There's 50 of them on just the first page of this search that have it - starting at $50.

Nice big bump!
A friend of mine had a scooter accident a while back. She fell off and was knocked unconscious.
She told me the meat wagon crew was able to use her thumb print to unlock her phone (that's pretty neat, I didn't know they could do that) and they contacted her boyfriend and parents to tell them she was on her way to hospital.
This got me thinking on what to do, should I end up in a similar situation....
I don't have that problem as I don't have a pin lock on my phone. I don't use phones for banking/social media/auction apps etc that require that kind of security and there is nothing on my phone I wouldn't want my partner to see.
Mum has has a dated Nexus 5 that I organised for her. Doesn't take it out, it just sits at home and she uses it to read news and contact people overseas with WeChat etc... She puts in maybe $5/yr with Skinny.
My friend who had the scooter accident showed me today how the thing works. There's a small round button below the screen and she just puts her thumb on it and it starts up.
My partner's Samsung doesn't do that trick.
I got the cellphone my sister gave me two years ago out of the drawer and with some help, am going to use it for taking photos for trademe auctions and things like that. As my digital camera is dead.
I'm not going to use it for internet or phoning anyone as internet on cellphones looks terrible IMO and I don't wish to be in constant contact thruout my day.
