I just posted a rant in the small annoyances thread about sites that now require a mobile phone account for registration. This seems to be a new and growing trend. Now I am curious to know if I am really the only one. Who, other than myself, does not have a mobile phone? Is this so unusual? Are there others?

Please note this thread is only for those, if any, who do not have a mobile phone and do not want to have one. I am not looking for reasons why people can't live without them. That is another thread.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Not me. I've never liked the things. I've been given two of them. One by my father and the other by my sister. They're both gathering dust somewhere.

I have one for emergencies only. (Health isn't so good.) I hate phones generally. If I could get rid of them all I would.

My elderly mother doesn't have one, but she struggles to operate a microwave oven or change channels on the TV so it's just easier to let her have old technology.

It's not all that uncommon. Pretty sure we all know if someone that doesn't have one (indeed, for me only one). My mum never sends txt messages, prefers to call.

I only have a work provided mobile.  I can also use it for personal use with some restrictions. Not sure whether I would get one if work didn't provide one. Camera and torch on it are handy though.

I usually refuse to enter my work mobile phone number on non work related personal forms. Usually leave the section blank, enter N/A, or home phone number.

Very few of my elderly relatives have one, and they all seem to be able to survive ok.

I do but have no landline.

I never answer private numbers. They get screened to voicemail.

I'd prefer to revert to pre internet days but sadly that won't ever happen.

I haven't owned one for about 12 years. Used to do a job where I was married to a mobile so glad to get rid of. An ipad on wi-fi suits me fine at home.

If I have to enter a mobile for registration I just make one up or refer to the wife if you have to be sent a text.

In my circle of friends any my family I can only think of one person that does not own a mobile phone and that is because they spend a huge percentage of their time outside any mobile coverage.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I love your screen name, it's so ironic. Well done.

My mother in law has one but might as well not have one since she doesn't know how to use it and never bothers to charge it anyhow. My father in law has one though so much easier to keep in touch with him. They do have an iPad though which they both use to FaceTime with our daughter.

A similar story for my mother; she's exhibiting many symptoms of the early stages of dementia, so we've tried encouraging her to at least carry her phone with her. Last year she got lost twice walking to our house from hers, but luckily was carrying the phone so I was able to use it to find her, but since then she's given up taking it with her at all. While the phone does have the Wiser launcher on it, even that is probably too complex for her to use (she struggles to answer calls, let alone make them). But from our perspective her having it on her  (if only she would!) to function as a tracking device, if needed, would be really valuable.

My 82YO FIL has a "Doro" cellphone.  He'd struggled with poor sound volume from regular cellphones as well as what was to him over-complex interface.  He's very happy with it, uses it for SMS text as well as camera, doesn't want more.
We'll probably have our landline service disconnected, almost everyone calls us on cellphone now, at a guess and despite being on the "no-call" list, marketing and scam calls outnumber genuine calls by at least 2:1.
