Right, which isn't to say I was condoning the topic or was particularly interested in the discussion or participating, rather the point there are probably more suitable places to have a discussion of that type.

Pretty much this.. I appear to experience the world differently to most people and that difference causes some of them to lose their mind when I speak mine. It's been postulated by a few people that I'm probably somewhere at the higher functioning end of the autism spectrum, but I don't have a spare couple of grand to waste to find out.

To address the OP's situation.

From what I understand of his posts he is actually dealing with several neighbours on the adjoining property. Having a chat with only some of them isn't likely to result in a satisfactory solution. In fact they are probably itinerant so the faces over the fence will change on a regular basis this requiring on going chats.

If there's to be a chat with anyone it needs to be with the person who owns or controls the property. Then you need to have faith they will enforce any agreed protocol.

Otherwise the only way is to work through the authorities, perhaps the local council if the occupiers are in contravention of the council rules, i.e. are mobile abodes allowed? If so how many? Is camping allowed? Is there proper sanitation? or the police if the law is being flouted.

If asking nicely doesn't work because they are not nice reasonable people, and going to the police isn't an option, going the other way is.

Pay some other large hairy non nice people to *cough* have a quiet word *cough*

I know of a situation where almost exactly this happened. There was no violence and the problem was solved very expeditiously.

A group of undesirables had shifted into a nice quiet neighbourhood. They were creating mayhem and upsetting the locals, one of whom had an acquaintance who was a member of a not so "gentlemanly" group who had a penchant for riding loud four stroke motorcycles of English or American origin.

The acquaintance offered to help resolve the problem. One sunny Saturday morning this group of motorcycle riders drove onto the front lawn of the house occupied by the said undesirables and suggested that it would be a very good idea if they, the undesirables, were to have moved out by the end of the next day. Needless to say they were gone the next day.

This method can work without the need for physical violence, but does rely on the implied use of violence or some other undesirable action.

I am a firm believer in treating someone as you would have then treat you and believe in resolving differences by discussion and trying understand the other persons point of view, BUT, there are exceptions to every rule sometimes you have to resort to using a language the other person understands.

When I was discussing my problem with one of my colleagues he told me that he pointed a speaker at his noisy neighbour's property and played loud noise as retribution for the awful noise that they were making. He told me that this solved the problem and that I should try it.

I didn't take his advice because 'tit for tat' solutions like this can go either way - it might completely solve the problem, or it might result in an ongoing escalation of tension that can end badly. Personally, I don't think it's worth the risk.

When you think about it we all use a form of this type of correction very day. The threat of consequences is used in many many ways to modify peoples actions.

The problem arises when we don't follow through on the consequences. Once the perpetrator (for want of a better description as I write this) knows there is no follow up they know in the future they can get away with whatever they like. Then it's downhill from there.
