The low socio economic white child is discriminated against because the law prevents them from applying for the same financial grants, educational scholarships, or university entrance spots that are reserved for maori.   The fact is, being maori and poor is far more advantageous than being white and poor.

If mikeb4 wants to complain about his granddaughter experiencing racism.  It is an awful thing.  But how about the student in first year med school who studied her guts out all year, achieved incredible results in the 90's, but failed to get into second year med school because over half the positions are reserved for maori. She is devastated, has quit uni for this year, and trying to think what to do now that her life plan's have been thrown into chaos.

I don't know what the numbers are for that sort of thing, but regardless it's just "whataboutism". One doesn't make the other any more or less acceptable.

No, the white child is discriminated because it is poor. Poor people are always discriminated against. That is how our society is constructed. If the white child wins the lottery, it is no longer poor and will no longer suffer poor discrimination. It can buy the things it needs to show it is no longer poor.

A black child cannot buy a different skin colour. It will always be black.

I think you need to have a look at equality vs equity. Here is a good start.

That's a very clear and easy way to explain it.

What a load of bollocks.

Have you sent a child through school or university in New Zealand? Your statement is a load of 'bollocks', as there are many maori only educational opportunities.

This is why, it is clearly better to be maori and low socio economic, than white and low socio economic.

Yes, and we are going through it at the moment. Do not assume my condition and use that wrong assumption as an argument.

Your image is overly simplistic so is not representative.

If the child is 'low socio economic' and maori, and there was also another child that was 'low socio economic' and white -- the barriers are removed for the maori child, but, the white child is given not given the same assistance and still remains blocked from viewing the game.

Well, you said something that make's it appear that you are unaware of the various race based educational opportunities.

If you are aware of these, then, why did you say 'bollocks'.  They clearly exist.

Half of places aren't reserved for Maori. Both Otago and Auckland operate special category admissions where spaces are reserved for disadvantaged populations. That includes Maori, Pacifica, low socio-economic, refugee and rural communities. Auckland also has an additional category for people with disabilities.

Did a quick google search to see if this has been researched....

Just saying, so long as each generation there is less racism then that is great. But, we want to make sure that you end up with reverse racism.

I said bollocks because the idea that one group is getting benefits - benefits they would not otherwise get under natural conditions - in detriment of white people is pretty close to the Great Replacement bogus theory and inherently racist.

OK, at Otago, 120 out of 202 places are special category.

My view, is that they should increase the total overall intake to taken into account the special category spots.  It seems that we have a doctor shortage, so why not?   I actually think it is a good thing to make doctors representative of society.

I don't quite get how what you are saying relates to my argument.  Because, I am not talking entire groups at all.

Regardless, now the racism word is being thrown about , I'm out.
