I wonder if the sexism/race would be at play is Amy Schumer said it... and he slaped her.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myjEoDypUD8
First time I have seen the before the slap.
Really seems weird. Will Smith was laughing. Jada rolled her eyes but didn't really look hurt. Then will walked over, didn't really look angry and then the the slap and walk back looked kind of like a set up, but then the swearing ...
What would have happened if Jada slapped Chris?

She'd have knocked him out.
lol.
It might have been more socially acceptable for Jada to slap Chris.
There's a reddit link with a video of Will Smith with Arsenio Hall making fun of one of the band members (who has alopecia) and telling the audience it's just a joke.
Can't post the link as it has a bad word in it.
What happened to Arsenio Hall anyway? Obviously not in the limelight any more but AFAIK he's didn't come down with an illness or involved in a scandal or anything. Maybe he made enough money so he could just retire.

Sorry but a man slapping another man can never be badass, whichever end of the spectrum one looks at it: it's either toxic masculinity or he fights like a girl.
The message it sends is: "You aren't even worth punching"
But it's the calmly walking up and then calmly walking back whilst adjusting the suit that I thought was badass.
The slap is actually a valid fighting technique. The Diaz brother (Nick and Nate) are well known for using the 'Stockton Slap" in UFC MMA fights. It hurts, it disorients, and has a longer reach than a punch.
Also, you can modify the slap a little and turn it into a palm strike. Now, you can knock people's teeth out, break noses and jaws. Bas Rutten was quite well known for that.
You can also go the other way and turn a slap into an eye poke. Jon Jones is probably most famous for that in UFC. It's an illegal tactic in MMA of course.
I don't agree with the idea that an open hand slap is somehow not manly, not damaging, and not a real assault.
gzt:Daynger:Its almost like that is his job or something.
Even so, that kind of humor is unusual for Americans at the top level.
IMO Dump the awards altogether.
Why do these people even matter, sure i get they have to acknowledge in some cases there exceptional performances but the flaunting of their wealth and sense of self importance is just disgusting at the end of the day they are overpaid entertainers only really noticed when we relax in our free time.
Do we have awards for construction workers on the red carpet televised all over the world. No because they get paid (underpaid) for their job.
The entertainment industry get paid obscene amount of money and also want their little me party look at how good I am.
No bullshit ceremony needed just send out a letter saying you got x award. Would also save millions.

Most industries have awards but most of them aren't that lavish, but I don't see any issue at all for rewarding people for great things they achieve in the arts. If you take away all the unnecessary things in life.....
It's not tax payer funded, so who cares what they spend? If watching it is an issue for you, you have an off button on your media consumption device of choice.
The issue for this particular thing is that all the focus is now on the wrong thing. The slap, and the people who were involved rather than the art and the people who were involved.
These award ceremonies are getting attention for all the wrong reasons, the controversy of recent years has derailed the original purpose. Some of that controversy has been reasonable, some not so much.
There are similar kinds of high profile award ceremonies for music and sports - other things that people watch/listen/follow and are fans of. "Best" is always going to be a subjective thing but it's the debate that keeps it interesting I guess.

Sure, but it all depends on force.
The palm strike is my go to in a tight spot. Hands up, elbows at side and fingers spread in a placative gesture, trying to avoid a fight. If that doesn't work you can straighten an arm very quickly into a palm strike and do as much damage as is necessary to defend yourself in the situation. It's something my grandfather taught me to enable me to defend myself as a kid. He knew all sorts of stuff like that. Disclaimer: I am talking solely about a self-defence situation when confronted by another male.
