Hang on. The offenders have left the scene but they 'haven't got away with it', at least not yet.

Chances are the long arm of the law will catch up with them in the end.

Maybe. But I don't see it, else it would be a deterrent to this continuing.

But how many of the latest ones reported here have ended in arrest.<SNIP>

man with receiving stolen property

Every one is guilty of receiving who receives any property stolen or obtained by any other imprisonable offence, knowing that property to have been stolen or so obtained, or being reckless as to whether or not the property had been stolen or so obtained.

As far as I know, that can include a raid offshoot if it can be identified as hiding it from the bloke that took it incase there is a door knock. It doesn't mean they got the 2 blokes.

(Or unwilling grandparents on FB without due checks until the obtainer is pinged).

And that's not a previous one :P that was the one on the day I raised it. There's still nothing on them it seems.

Sure but it's good to know the police are working on things isn't it. They may also press charges related to the robbery itself later as evidence is gathered.

Yep.
Puts to bed the theory they don't follow up report. Profile enough it gets it's own.

Not quite it ends in a small update on a new story. But headline world won't pick up on those. So doesn't seem as prominent.

Now to see if they're willing to snitch, and actually make an example of it. Or be another It's before the courts we wont speak of it but they got a stern telling off.

Lias: ....There needs to be both carrot and stick, but we have too much carrot and not enough stick. The system needs to be better equipped to focus on rehabilitation to begin with, but quickly move to raining hellfire if they don't get the message. Right now it tries to rehabilitate them right up until they do something really bad, then puts them in a cell for a few years and lets them out to do more really bad things.

Prison should be the last resort, and only for repeat offenders, but because of that it should be less "Milton Hilton" and more "Devil's Island". "Send them to the salt mines" or "Hard labour on bread and water" should be actual things. Not heated flooring and PlayStations.

The policy chase policy needs to be reversed to "always chase, no matter what" from "never chase bad guys". If the people fleeing die, good, job you just saved the taxpayer some money. If the people fleeing kill or injure third parties, they should be charged with murder / attempted murder. That law and order is seen to be enforced should be the overriding priority here. ....

My 2 cents :-)

I think a lot of people would vote for that!

I'm sure a number of govt infrastructure projects could be sped up with some additional manual labour - throughout the country!
While it's reassuring an offender is temporarily in jail reflecting on their life choices, or perhaps just brushing up on their next trick - knowing they are actively contributing to society would surely benefit both the convicted and public.

RNZ

Police say they are increasing patrols of shopping centres and malls this weekend after a dramatic smash-and-grab robbery last night left panicked shoppers fleeing.

Does this mean the offenders will try on Monday instead?

Things have taken a turn for the worse. No longer happy with property crimes, some of these yoof are deliberately hurting people.

Not good.

I'd like to see a harder line taken on yoofs playing up and hurting people. They are getting away with too much these days.

Agreed, yoof with a record of hurting people should be detained for everybody's good.

Are we allowed to recommend beatings for the recidivist offenders? No?

I didn't say anything...

I got a 24hr ban on facebook for just suggesting that the police use a tool that they carry every day to solve the protestor problem so you cant suggest anything happens to anyone that is breaking the law now.

I am in Facebook jail for 30 days for saying I would pay for the bullet to sort out the killer of Police Officer Matthew Hunt and the POS is not happy with a 27 year sentence!;

6ft under is the best outcome!

Pointless and dangerous harassment of cyclists is nothing new. It's frequent all over the city. I agree this might not be a problem if car owners exhibiting this kind of behavior were dealt with earlier well before these guys learned the same values from otherwise law abiding citizens.
