I don't want to be that guy but that would be making it a little too easy. It wouldn't take much to figure out what I'm alluding to, especially since I'm a neophyte with tech, as it's starting to get a lot more traction in the business press.
I mean burden of proof and all that, this is a tech forum so likely someone would be able to look and say if it’s snake oil.
The problem is the insatiable demand, improvements in efficiency or more are just taken in stride. There are reports of places just buying it to keep on hand instead of using it, and even old gen spiking massively because demand is wanting anything it can get it’s hands on.
It’s not getting better until something gives.
For anyone looking to buy right now, the prices haven't been updated on the Airpoints Store yet (even though purchases come straight from Apple).
My partner's laptop died tonight. PB Tech increased prices pretty promptly, but I've just grabbed a new MacBook Neo from the Airpoints Store at the old price. Even better still, I had enough Airpoints, so no cash changed hands. Phew.
I presume the prices will be updated very soon, so get in quick. At the time of writing, MacBook Airs, Pro's, Neo's and Apple TV's all look to be still at the old prices.
I built a reasonably high end gaming pc in October/November. Just for shits and giggles I repriced it today.
The price had gone up 55% for the same components. It puts these price rises in perspective I guess.

You are being that guy.
If you’ve got something to say, say it.

You are being that guy. We're not going to pick up on the point you're trying to get across if you speak in riddles and half-hints.
I wonder how long it will take for Marketplace and Trademe to be flooded with 4yr old Apple TV 4K 3rd gens asking for more than people paid for them?
elpenguino:
Yes, but there's competition between vendors on hardware in every area - except apple.
They charge what they like and people pay it.
Based on the comments here and the reactions on Wall Street, it's pretty clear that there are limits to what people are willing to pay.
It will be interesting to see what they do with the pricing of the Apple Watch Ultra. It's still $1600 compared with $2400 for the Garmin Fenix 8 Pro, so it's probably still good value even with a significant price bump. As for phones and laptops, I'll just be stretching my replacement cycles.
YMTC, CXMT. Yes I have been wrong many times in the past, and will continue to be wrong into the future.

Still talking in code. If you've got something to contribute, please do...

I love my Garmin don’t have to charge it every day, for the cost of Apple watches the battery should last weeks not hours . My phone is bad enough

I do about five hours a week of endurance sports and I find that I only charge the Apple Watch Ultra every two to three days, so I've never really understood the complaints about battery life. I'm more concerned about the ergonomics, especially my constant tendency to mark a lap when I intended to pause or vice versa, but that's a subject for another day.

Not sure why you think those will affect consumer pricing? They will go after whoever pays the most for their wafers which will not be consumer market.
Some other points:
They will need another 3 years even if they do it at their breakneck speeds. Any relief in demand pressure is met with bigger models. Again, these companies are taking anything they are getting their hands on including ddr5/ddr4 chips.
So yea, the price for end users is staying until something gives.
China cannot currently play in the HBM AI data centre playground because people like ASML are forbidden from selling to China ( Yes China have their "Manhattan" project... but its years away from being commercialised at scale)
Yes, more Fabs can help the lower end squeeze ( eventually) but at the moment the top end demand is so great its outstripping any extra capacity coming into the market
I understand what you’re saying, but I respectfully disagree. Increased availability of what you describe as “low end” silicon will have a major impact on price for consumer electronics. CXMT has stated their goal is to flood the market for regular consumers. HP placed major LPDDR5 orders with CXMT in January, Qualcomm began custom DRAM work with the company in April, and Dell, Asus, and Acer have all been in discussions. Furthermore, the company isn't tied to any data center contracts (for now), so it has largely empty production lines just waiting for customers.I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens and yes I could be wrong. Also it will be interesting if YMTC undercuts Samsung and SK Hynix; reportedly they having been undergoing validation testing for months and also have significant production capacity. Once I again I could be wrong. This is how I see it.
