Golly I hate AAs.

Yep, but TLAs* are worse.

* Three Letter Acronyms

;-)

People who conflate acronyms and initialisms. Acronyms are a subset of abbreviations which form names or words. e.g. Radar, NATO, not SS or AA or TLA.

I love a spot of pedantry - a man after my my own heart. 👍

What's a J(ay)p(e)g?  I reckon it's an MIA ( a word, a name, and a Mixed Initialism & Acronym).  I can pronounce Mia easier than pffft or tsktsk (both allowable in Scrabble, apparently - and not just Welsh scrabble).

OK - I give up.

MikeB4: Blackbirds, barkchips grrrrrrrrrr

Yes! They make a helluva mess! They keep flicking the bark all over our paths.

Solved it by running lengths of this alongside the path, in the garden, pinned it down with 100 mm stainless wire garden staples and put a thin layer of bark back over the netting. It becomes almost invisible but the birds can’t get anything from under the net so they give up the quest.

Appreciate you may need to get someone to help or do it for you.

So let me get this right.  TLA is not an acronym for Three Letter Acronyms but FLAT is an acronym for Four Letter Acronym Thingy?

Similarly, FLIT doesn't qualify as a Four Letter Initialism Thingy (because it's an acronym), but TLI does as Three Letter Initialism?

And don't get me started on starting sentences with conjunctions. 😉

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

People who literally don't look where they're going. They're walking forward but their head is looking off to the side somewhere. That's how you bump into people and things and stuff! STOP IT!

Also, people who don't have their bus card ready as they get on to the bus. People who don't know what they want to order until they get to the front of the line. People who don't have their money ready when it's time to pay. Even worse when they want to pay with the exact amount of cash. "There's a 10cent piece in my bag somewhere!" Yeah, sod the people you're holding up.

An acronym may or may not be an initialism. FLIT and FLAT would be both, whereas Radar is only an acronym, and TLA is just an initialism.

TLA could presumably be an acronym in Swahili or some language that can pronounce a leading "TL" sound. Except that in Swahili it would be THA for Tatu Herufi Acronym. Except that Swahili doesn't appear to have a word for "acronym".

And ending sentences with prepositions is something up with which I will not put.

Behodar: The worst are TLAs used by TLAs (territorial local authorities, AKA councils).

What’s an AKA Council?

You got me! I didn't even notice that I'd done that...

As for acronyms/initialisms, one of the guys at work will, if told that a word is an acronym, make every attempt to pronounce it as such.

"Click ok" [ock]

"Insert the usb drive" [uzzb]

When CCC Candidates don't even know the road rules!

Park in an empty part of the street while campaigning in a billboard light truck on the WRONG side of the road!

And when challenged about their parking, argue that "it is legal"!

Well, that is one off my list of candidates!
