Sorry I’m not making myself clear. I don’t dispute the numbers you quote. I am just tired of the media weaponising weather events and using numbers they clearly don’t have any comprehension of to promote their ‘disaster porn’.
But thank you for the basic atmospheric physics lesson.

I actually think weaponising weather events helps the masses comprehend the issues. When we hear that the average global temp has risen 0.8 degrees since whenever, or that this year was the hottest on record, the daily immersion of weather doesn't reflect that. One day its 13C next week its 22C, the people think everything is normal.
Okay, so exaggeration and misdirection is fine as long as it achieves the goal?
Here’s an example using your Florida inundation. What if the scientists had subtracted the amount of snow and ice deposited on 1.7m sqkm of the Western Antarctic Ice Shelf (equivalent to the area of Greenland) on the same day as the Greenland melt? Even if the net amount was a loss of ice, then wouldn’t that be a more accurate indication of our plight?
Or the same time as the heat dome in the North West of USA/Canada, temperatures in Florida were 10F below normal.
The difference is when the media says “Worst floods in Marlborough in sixty years” I think “So they were worse 61 years ago?” Or do their records only go back 60 years?
Likewise, “Death Valley records hottest temperature in more than 100 years”. Does that mean it was hotter more than 100 years ago?
A scared population is a compliant population.

Is the Florida number incorrect?

Compliant with what exactly?
“The whole aim of practical politics”, wrote HL Mencken, “is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary.”
“Fear is the foundation of most governments”. John Adams (US Founding Father).

Why would governments be keen on scaring people about climate change (or other environmental issues)?
If anything, many governments have been actively scaring people about the financial impact of actually doing what's needed to fix the problems. Resisting rather than encouraging global solutions - and when that fails - putting efforts into finding excuses as to why they should be granted exceptions.

Is this like don't get vaccinated and don't wear a mask because it's a freedom issue?
No. Because the above example is like saying “Cross the road without looking” because it’s a freedom issue (virtually cutting off your nose to spite your face). Perceived threat vs calculable threat.

ChCh, another day at 20, same as yesterday and tomorrow and Thursday. Right now humidity is 35%. Winter! My Spring bulbs are well up, Hyacinths starting to flower. It's all messed up.
