Many years have days in the middle of summer where it is 12 degrees or lower. Remember 1 year when 3 days over New Years the temp was what the temp is going to be from Friday 11 degrees.

The joys of living in a longish narrow Island.

Yep, I get that. But my overall view is that its changing. Its Winter, my bulbs are what they would be well into Spring. Its only subtle. Hyacinths and Tulips are 6 inches tall. Daffodils in flower. Rhodo has had a couple of flower since killed off by frost. 20+ here the last 3 days and tomorrow. I recall one November it rained non stop for 7 days (ChCh) Another when hardly any frosts meant the stone fruit never appeared. Winter like a cool Spring. On Earth, changes like this take a long long long time, plants adapt. Not when its year to year though.

First time posting in this thread.

We cut down to one car from two in 2018. Toyota Corolla.
Always thinking twice before buying an item (i.e. production energy, quality product that will last, ethical, can I recycle it, transport costs/Co2, do I need it?)
Buying second hand when possible.
Walk when possible instead of driving.
Involved in restoration projects with native tree plantings since 2016
No kids yet - adopting is on the cards.

CNN: Australia is shaping up to be the villain of COP26 climate talks

If Australia's allies were worried that the country might cause them problems at upcoming climate talks in Glasgow, the events of the past week should leave little doubt in their minds. It will.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Thursday all but confirmed a report that his country had pressured the UK into dropping key climate commitments from their bilateral trade agreement, showing no sign of regret or embarrassment at being caught out.

And on Monday last week, when a senior UN official warned Australia's climate inaction would eventually "wreak havoc" on its economy, Australia's resources minister, Keith Pitt, dismissed the UN as a "foreign body" that should mind its own business. He even bragged about Australia's plans to keep mining coal "well beyond 2030," while much of the developed world is already well on its way to phasing out the fossil fuel.

Watching that, I was left wondering what the NZ government proposes to do about getting rid of all the woodburner stoves that return the captured carbon (plus particulates) to the atmosphere.

We have one in our house which exists strictly for emergency power cut use - we have lived here 14 months and never lit it yet.

Home wood burners in practice are not an issue for climate change. I doubt the government or any of the parties in parliament have any concerns about home wood burners from a climate change perspective.

I was reading about a village in Wales that is likely to be flooded (it's actually below sea level so this shouldn't surprise many) and I was a bit baffled by this:

"Scientists say British sea levels have risen about 10cm in the past century. "

The last time I looked water finds an equal level. You cannot make the surface of a bath higher at one end.

The ocean is essentially a bath. Surely if sea levels in Britain are up 10cm that's bound to reflected everywhere else? I know the moon will have temporary tidal effects but I can't for the life of me figure out how - for example - sea levels in Britain could rise 10cm without sea levels in France or Ireland doing the same. They're essentially next door.

I thought sea levels are higher because of melting ice?

Here's what I don't understand... How gas including water vapour don't escape the earth's gravity and fly away into the ether.
