Yup... got cursed at one Saturday night after noise control came to their house.

Sunday morning, I decided, was the ideal time to remove the old hinge pins from my gateposts, adjacent to their section.. with my angle-grinder. Took ages. I was so glad I had good earmuffs.

Move to Germany, where mowing lawns is illegal on Sundays & public holidays.

(Am not sure what the penalty is.)

But can you mow them at 2am on a weekday?

And you can't drive a truck on the Autobahns on a Sunday either. Or in the outside lane at any other time. Bliss.

Yeah, seems social evolution works in such a way that after we have fought for 40-hour work week & conquered that one, eventually we will have our leisure hours enshrined in law & protected as such too.

Certain activities are classed as work & this is banned during the hard-won leisure hours. This obviously ignores those who find lawn mowing carthatic & other such weirdos.

Technically, you're not allowed to in the Socialist Republic of Nimbvarna Wellington either:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/comment/6297238/Editorial-Noise-policy-enforces-weekend-idleness

I was building a deck once (public holiday, middle of the day). Mr Noise Control officer stopped by and told me that they had received a complaint and to stop or else they would seize the tools. In fairness, Mr Noise Control did have the grace to look pretty shame faced about the whole thing.

Really folks? Getting construction noise under control before a civilised to me is not something to aspire to?

Neighbours that insist on doing their noisy gardening on Sunday mornings.

Perhaps it's retribution from another noisy neighbour on Saturday night? I lived in a flat next to one that had loud Friday and Saturday gatherings. I used to get up and mow the lawn early. Always took awhile for the mower to warm up, would leave it idling while I boiled the kettle...

Some years ago our late-20’s single neighbour in a close cross-leased house frequently had mid-week deck-parties with loud music and loud voices. These would start about 11 pm and go into the mid small-hours. Personal requests and noise control didn’t really deter him.

At 6.00 am one morning after a Wed night party, I opened our garage door, which was below his bedroom, and turned on our internal vac (which makes a loudish high-pitched whining and roar), my circular saw, router (tool), belt-sander and electric planer and left them all running. Within a few minutes he arrived saying “What are you doing?”. I said I was trying to piss him off like he had been pissing me off at 3 am. He turned and left and I waited 15 minutes before turning everything off.

I don’t recall hearing another loud party but within a couple of months the house, owned by his wealthy parents’ family trust, was sold and he moved out.

People. Again.

I know it's the day before Festivus Eve and most people are on holiday now, but seriously - just try moving your feet or take your head out of your phone for a moment to allow me to continue to make progress on my lunch hour.

Inconsistency.

A few weeks ago, I used a promo code on a certain site. The code gave $x off a certain product. What you had to do was add the product to your order, then apply the code to get the discount.

Yesterday I ordered a different product with a different code (same site). I added the product to my order, applied the code... and got a confirmation email with two of the item listed (with the second at full price). It seems that this week's code "auto-buys" the product! Why can't these things be consistent?

Having to brake to enter the motorway from a long on-ramp, where I have gotten myself safely up to the motorway speed, knowing the motorway is free and flowing - only to be effectively halted in my tracks by an idiot that refuses to budge over 80kmh (or less) as I get to the motorway...I then slip in behind after a braking manoeuvre and as I slip into the next lane (indicating like a good boy) the damn fool just swerves into the middle lane blocking me (without indicating)....

Been on a couple of road trips of late, last one was a day trip CHCH to Dunners and back same day, Sunday. Filled up at self serve NPD in Oamaru. It was SO SLOW to fill. Then the auto stop on the filler thingie didnt work so it overflowed. Then I accidentally put 95 in not 91 (took my wee use for golf car). So the idea of saving a little money going to NPD fell apart!
