Been meaning to post this for a while and I was just triggered walking down the street...

Men who wear dress pants that are too long really grinds my gears! it totally ruins a good suit and looks incredible sloppy!

Just pay the money and get them altered at a tailor.

Vehicle warranty difference based on where you buy the car.

It's the same car every time, so surely they should stand by it equally everywhere?

If the market dictates a longer warranty then most manufacturers will provide one. There is a fair amount of money involved, both cash and provisions. A longer warranty either means a higher selling price or less profit.

Handle9: Banks.

We're going through this right now.

We've been with Kiwibank for 16 years, 15 of those I've been self employed. One family home, one rental, all insurances and credits cards with them. We've never asked them for anything but now the kids are leaving home we want to do some work on our house.

Our joint income is double the amount we asked for and our equity is five times the amount we asked for.

But they said no on the basis my wife has been self employed for 21 months and their minimum is 24. They wouldn't budge at all.

So we went to a broker and within a fortnight we had four offers. All offering more than we need, all with discounted rates, all with cash back and all suggesting we could borrow more to buy another rental (not that we want to become investors but it shows how secure we are).

So it's goodbye Kiwibank.

It's funny how circumstantial this stuff is. Kiwibank are the ones being really easy to deal with. Westpac through a broker has been ok but annoying.

TSB... Bye bye

Not only the trousers but the jacket itself - sometimes you see someone down the street with what is clearly two sizes too large - shoulders falling on the sides, sleeve going all the way to half of the hands. Either they buy from shitty stores with no adequate service, buy in a hurry and never get it altered or they are really not into the whole "dress sense" thing.

I've found that bank sales teams are out-of-sight better than business as usual teams. I've had experiences with several banks (as well as anecdotally from family and friends) that a new bank works incredible hard to retain your business, but then is terrible at actually keeping your business once won.

Shifting banks isn't painless, but is very easy and has been for a few years. NZBA has a voluntary code of practice and all your recurring payments should shift over without you having to do anything.

Airlines that send notification of flight change but never tell you what they have changed for ease of reference.

Historically I've found Kiwibank really good as an existing customer. Unfortunately last time we bought they were not remotely competitive due to the new deposit ratio laws at the time.

TSB has been a rude shock - manual processes, not willing to negotiate interest rates with existing customers and just generally painful to deal with.

It will be interesting to see what the new bank (likely Kiwibank) will be like, it's a significant effort for me to switch banks as I do not live in NZ.

Good on you. People stay with their banks for too long and put up with too much from them.

What should happen with banks is the same as has happened with phones - you should be able to take your numbers with you to another bank. Thats to say, you should be able to have your account numbers be connected to you and not your bank, that way it would become a whole lot easier to switch.

That would no doubt make money laundering easier and therefore be banned.

Banking has gotten significantly more difficult in the last 5 years, especially remote banking

Yes - I think it’s circumstantial to the extent that it’s not the policies and practices of a bank as a whole that determines the quality of the experience you have with that bank - it’s the expertise, intelligence and interpersonal skills of the individual banker that you’re dealing with. In round terms, banks are all pretty much the same - but individual staff are not.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

This is true to a point. The smaller banks have resource issues which can be incredibly annoying. The TSB app is a total cluster. No biometric login, the back end is intermittently useless and forgets login details and it's just generally painful. I have consistently found the service to be lack lustre and complacent as well.

I have found many banks behave like they are doing you a favour, rather than me being a customer who will spend tens of thousands of dollars a year. I made this point very clearly this morning via the broker.

I have consistently found Kiwibanks direct lending team to be excellent over a number of years. Even when I left due to non-competitive pricing they were helpful and generally behaved like I was important to their business.

Not sure if CGA would apply to a car, but if it did and I found myself arguing in the Disputes Tribunal, I would just say "You clearly believe 5 years is a proper warranty elsewhere. Why do you not believe that to be the case in NZ?"

@Geektastic Cars are covered under the Consumer Guarantees Act. Manufacture warranties have the same standing as TV warranties.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

If the staff hung around long enough to have a relationship with I might agree with you. But we've seen three different mortgage managers in our Kiwibank branch in the last six months. Each one said we could have everything we wanted but once we applied they said no.

Whilst internet banking has had lots of upsides I'm never in a branch to talk to someone to create a relationship. Long gone are the days when my bank manager would know the names of my kids and would approve 10k loans over the phone.
