Did a quick google search to see if this has been researched....

Just saying, so long as each generation there is less racism then that is great. But, we want to make sure that you end up with reverse racism.

The Daily Mail is a tabloid rag not noted for accurate or objective reporting.

How about the guardian?

Imo OP chose a bad title for this topic. It's all over the place.

Back on the original topic at least everyone so far agrees the commentator was in the wrong. The only disagreement is about the action or lack of it taken by Sky.

Imo the logical action was suspension and consultation with stakeholders pending employment action. The fact that Sky did not take that action should be cause for partners to review advertising spend and the like. It appears that no advertisers or partners raised concerns with Sky at all.

I said bollocks because the idea that one group is getting benefits - benefits they would not otherwise get under natural conditions - in detriment of white people is pretty close to the Great Replacement bogus theory and inherently racist.

I don't quite get how what you are saying relates to my argument.  Because, I am not talking entire groups at all.

Regardless, now the racism word is being thrown about , I'm out.

The "racism word" was in this topic since the first page.

OK, at Otago, 120 out of 202 places are special category.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/education/300013779/medical-schools-boosting-mori-and-pasifika-numbers

I have to say, I find that concerning. Especially "Otago was unable to provide the grade average for special category students".

I don't care where my doctor comes from or what they look like, but I do want them to have earned it through merit and ability. I don't like the idea of students with a 93 average missing out, while someone with an 87 gets in via "special category" placement.

I think this sort of help should be limited to grants and scholarships to help students who have earned a place pay for it.

There are minimum entry requirements in place for the special entry categories. Thi ensures that the people entering meet a minimum standard.

Being a GP doesn't require a superhuman intellect, ability to relate to people is just as important as raw academic performance.

Because when I'm looking for someone to trust my health with, my target is always "find someone who met the minimum standard"!

I understand that raw academic performance is only part of it, but with over half being "special category" placements it makes you wonder how many great doctors we are missing out on because their spots went to "adequate" doctors instead.

Anyway, getting pretty far off topic now.

It depends on what you are looking for. If I want serious research into important social phenomena, I prefer to look to peer-reviewed academic sources like this or this. Newspaper reports tend to be superficial or misleading.

In any case, there is no question that racial and ethnic minorities are consistently far more disadvantaged overall than any white groups. Every study that has been done into this confirms that fact. Finding the right balance is tricky, and it is unfortunate when some miss out because of that.

This thread has a bad title.  Should be "bigotry" - not "discrimination".

Discrimination without bigotry is fine. It's be a damned sad world if cultural difference couldn't be laughed at, appropriately, without bigotry.

The TV commentator was being a stupid dick.  TV commentators should not be stupid dicks.

So, since we have given Wheeler a free pass, should Magic Radio be apologising to John Banks and putting him back on air pronto?

There is a range of consequences between free pass and fired. I would imagine Wheeler is going through a formal process without being fired.

Repeated behaviour in a job is quite different from a one off incident, the courts generally feel the same way.

LOL every qualified professional person in your life has literally met the minimum standard.

I see that as why the discussion and education is so important! Discriminating against people based on things they can't change is downright stupid (hopefully we all agree on that), and education is clearly the key to fix this.

I'm afraid you'll find it hard to find an agreement on your first premise. For example, it's generally acceptable to discriminate on physical appearance when it comes to mate selection.

Being a GP requires the same amount of intellect as any other Doctor, it's a far more widespread speciality than many areas.

It's a common misnomer that GP's are less qualified than other doctors, and it's completely false. My wife, a GP, has the same core training as every other medical doctor in NZ, and on top of that, she has additional specialist training, the same as a radiologist or any other "speciality".

Being a GP isn't 'easier' than being any other kind of doctor, it's different.
