I like HCB's, even the basic mass produced ones (but home made or the fancy bakery ones are nicer), Also like things like Top Top Spicy Fruit bread, Quality Bakers Spicy Fruit Muffin Splits, etc. I'm am absolute sucker for a good Plum Duff (might have to give Clootie Dumpling a go thou), but fruit cake on the other is for the most part a waste of good dried fruit. Generally it's dry and horrible, that being said I have had the occasional nice moist one but very much the exception not the rule.

+1 to micheaelmurfy Coriander has to be up there with "list of plants that deserve to be hunted to extinction"
+1 to eracode Marmalade on toast is great.

Pineapple absolutely belongs on Pizza, as does.. damn near everything.. sorry Freitasm and other Margarita purists you're wrong :-)  I've had many amazing tasting Pizzas with ingredients that would give an Italian traditionalist a heart attack. Pizza has been one of if not my favourite foods since I first tried it as a kid, and while I have my favourite I've never found one I wouldn't eat again. From the mad genius of Tommy Millions to the greasy awesome of a Dominos Double Bacon Cheeseburger, it's all good.

As Geektastic and others have said, Cheese and bread is one of the greatest combinations of all time (and a very old and enduring one!). Cheese on toast, cheese + whatever toasted sandwiches, welsh rarebit, cheese + jam on toast, Cheese + PB on toast, Cheese + vegemite on toast, Cheese spread on toast.. All great.. get in mah belly. Shoutout to MikeAqua for also loving chilli sauce and/or jalapenos and cheese with bread, I had jalapeno and cheese sammies for lunch earlier this week.

However I'm afraid I'm firmly in the Vegemite > Marmite (be it NZ or British). I don't care if it's not patriotic, the Aussie stuff is just better.

Feta is good

Olives are good

Seafood (including shellfish!) is good but I'm not a huge fan of "raw" fish/seafood dishes.

Bacon is the supreme food however. All other foods must bow before it. I have a theory I've been espousing for years that bacon is the reason for the whole "middle east crisis". Majority of people there follow religions that ban bacon, that would make even a saint homicidal. If we want to have peace in the middle east, just convert everyone to eating bacon.. Problem solved. I'll take my Nobel prize now :-P

Yep - and I'm guessing you'd also be a sucker for some Spotted Dick? 😀

I like hot cross buns, I dislike the heresy that is the chocolate hot cross buns I noticed on sale in countdown....because my key unpopular dislike is chocolate, however I totally understand why people like it...it just isn't for me. As a kid I ate loads of it just because everyone else did...it didn't outright offend me but it would always make me sick later on. Later in life I find out that it was because I'm extremely dairy intolerant, but the many childhood years have associated the smell and taste of chocolate with the sensation of being sick....and now I cant go near it. I'm happy to buy it for my wife and kid but chocolate drinks are banned in my house as the smell would make me heave.

There are plenty of other things I really don't see the appeal in...but I can understand why others do...I see why durian is popular...I understand why generations of dutch people are brought up enjoying herring as a snack...people like things for many reasons other than just what the taste is.

Mmmm hot cross buns. It reminds me of "Rosinboller" (raisin buns) that is a regular staple in Norway, available everywhere all year round. It is sweet buns with raisins.

A little closer in taste, with more variety of dried fruits (although another beast) is "Julekake", which translates to "Christmas cake" but it also sold year round.

I agree with those that think it is a crime against humanity that hot cross buns are only sold a few months of the year here in NZ.

We have strayed way OT - who puts Marmite on their HCBs? Ah, I suppose there will be one or two deviants.

Hm, thats one to try. Think I will have it with my tea while enjoying the Kapiti sunshine.

Edit: have tried it now. Not bad at all.

One of the pluses of ageing is you can hide the easter eggs a week or so before Easter and you will have forgotten where they are at Easter and can have a hunt all over again

insane: Because while I enjoy the taste, it also takes me back to my childhood when I looked forward to Easter egg hunts etc.

Vegemite and cheese on HCB; bonus points for lightly grilled cheese.

I love the New World HCB, and this year the local store has introduced Picks Peanut Butter version, which is pretty damn good (though it also replaced the chocolate version which was better)

I do not like any form of Countdown HCB however

Chocolate HCB are the only acceptable HCB

Fruit/Spiced bread is an abomination that should be banned under penalty of death.

I bowled a dozen over the weekend.  Six traditional and six chocolate and peanut butter.

Did 6 hours towing lures the kayak, so that should have been enough to burn them off again.

Now you point it out, it all makes perfect sense. Let me know when you start the re-education process, that will be worth watching :-)
