Handsomedan: Amazing headline about how much the escooter ACC claims have cost NZ.
A third of the page down stats on other claims are given which dwarf the escooter numbers.
But most people won’t have read that far.
https://stuff.co.nz/national/119064363/electric-scooter-injuries-cost-nz-taxpayers-7-million-in-15-months
“ ACC data since e-scooters launched in October 2018 reveals:
- Cycling injuries cost taxpayers just under $74.7m – more than 10 times more than e-scooters. Skateboard and push scooter injuries also cost more, just over $16.1m and $11.3m respectively. (This equipment is also used for sport)”
The amounts are not in dispute, but without a sample size the statistics are meaningless when comparing injuries from other ‘scooter-like’ types of transport. Are there 10 times more cyclists than scooterists? What total distance is covered by the various forms of transport?
Annoys me too.
