Personal/private conversations between people on a public thread (sometimes even an ad) on social media.

Just this morning, two semi-illiterate folk on FB chatting away about all sorts of things on an ad for a small Holden, which started as "hey, XYZ, this would be good for you" and ended (if in fact it has ended) with "Yeah, Bob's leg is good - he needs an op though at some stage"...I have obviously paraphrased as it was in some form of not-quite-English.

The apparent mental road block of NZ politicians failing to grasp that one of the most popular methods of reducing house prices would be to allow some form of tax free savings vehicle as an alternative, not just to add more tax to house ownership.

The trailer-mounted electronic message sign south of Levin warning of traffic congestion at Otaki at 2pm on a weekday Monday afternoon, when there was zero traffic congestion. I'm assuming this is NZTA, but honestly if you want to be taken seriously, signage needs to reflect the current conditions, not some sign that only reflects conditions on two out of every seven days.

And while I'm on a roll - Wellington's "Smart Motorway" signs that seem incapable of posting a separate speed for different lanes - e.g. 6:45pm last night when traffic was slow in the two SH2 Hutt bound lanes because of the memorial cycle ride, but was flowing freely in the two SH1 lanes and yet all four lanes were set to 60 km/h.

That would be a very scary situation! Have you seen how many people forget to merge into the Hutt traffic until they get to the solid lines? I understand where you are coming from and believe this would be a great feature - but it would require a significant uplift in driver skill which I don't think we will see in NZ until the cars for the driving.

For 90% of the time 60km/h would be the safe speed to the m/way from about the interchange, 80km/h from Petone to the interchange.

I believe that will be due to a legal issue... NZ legislation says that a speed limit applies to a section of road, not to a lane.

Hence, when you're leaving a section of roadworks, you're limited to 30kph. That's because they need 30kph to apply to traffic approaching the roadworks, and the 30kph has to apply to the whole section of road.

As long as they do not end up with true "smart motorways" rather than variable speed limits which is what they actually have.

Smart motorways do dumb things such as allow the hard shoulder to become a running lane during heavy flow - thus resulting in a number of deaths because people in broken down vehicles have no safe refuge from which to access the emergency telephone network along the hard shoulder.

If you mean drivers who forget to merge Monday through Friday everyday they commute, because their time is more valuable than those nobodies whose parents taught them properly about queues, then yes there are always forgetful drivers.

But you just call them from your car? There are signs on the harbour bridge reminding people to stay in the car, they will see you on the cameras and send a cop out to see what the problem is. Would be crazy to get out of the car without a vehicle with flashing lights to block traffic.
