Went out and asked if I could help them with anything, one of the sweet old ladies suggested that we should close our gate if we didn't want people walking onto our property...

Exactly why I made our gates automatic. Memsahib said no to razor wire and minigun turrets though.

With automatic gates ours would be closed all the time. Too lazy to close the manual gate.

Hadn't thought of barb wire and miniguns though, might have to talk to my wife about that.

BTW: What is it with this fascination with really tall fences in NZ? Are they put up so you can imagine you don't have any neighbours?

I think you folks are confusing "emoticon" ;) with "emoji" 🐢🍰

Our gates ARE closed all the time! Why people assume I wish to see them in person, I have no idea.

Really? You obviously have a different perspective. Both my wife and I cannot understand why the fences are so low here and why (especially out here in the country) people often do not draw curtains at night either.

In an ideal world, a wall is preferable to a fence and should be at least 10 feet high. 😬

Except Drumpf never got his wall, just a fence - which is falling over by itself.

He should have asked the Russians to do it. They had a good one in Berlin.

I get a little annoyed at local FB pages (i.e. the Community Groups) and the kinds of busy-bodies that frequent them.

"There were youths in our street last night. One of them said something blasphemous. I rang the police but they'd gone before they could respond"...

You know - that kind of nonsense.

Trouble is, those pages also have some useful stuff that prevents me from leaving altogether.

Kingston Webb was caught driving at 148 kph in an 80 kph zone in Napier.

The kilometre per hour (SI symbol: km/h; abbreviations: kph, kmph, km/hr) is a unit of speed, expressing the number of kilometres travelled in one hour. Internationally, km/h is the most commonly used unit of speed on traffic signs and speedometers.

From US english we have the kph abbreviation.  But it's nonsense why not use the correct SI unit whenever possible?

well, emoji evolved from emoticon. Emoticon was / is character based, and emoji is an image format of the same. As per your illustration.

both are examples of short attention span and, quite frankly laziness. Brought about by significantly reduced rates of book reading.

Reminds me of New York's former Mayor Michael BloomBerg, and current Presidential democratic candidate.

He implemented a "Stop and Frisk" measure.

People who when at a red light that has just gone green will accelerate and then brake because the car in front hasn't started to move. Pointless and just asking to get rear ended.

Somewhat related: Neighbour has been selling their house and a couple of old ladies walked into our property to look at the house from our end.

Asking for miniguns was a mistake, should have asked for howitzers and let her talk you down from there.
