OK - so that's a sub-heading not a headline. But WTF? Who thinks up that stuff? There's an answer - I clicked through - there's a link to a "research article"

I was going to say - glibly - "21st Century Problems" - but hey the article tells me this has been going on since the 18th century.

I've learned something today! Why I don't need a freaking handbag.

OK, not a headline, but copied thoughtlessly by NZH from elsewhere:

"The laparotomy, a surgical procedure involving a large incision through the abdominal wall to gain access into the abdominal cavity, was performed successfully.

The doctor said: 'The eggs were removed as well as we could and the abdominal cavity was thoroughly rinsed.'

The eggs caused a giant rapture of the gastrointestinal wall, which was sewn up by the doctors."

Sounds like fun, ruined by doctors.

Not actually in the headline, but in this article, the reporter has stated "A council inspector later informed them that was incorrect and the buildings would need a code of compliance certificate".

This simple lack of understanding does my head in and it appears to be everywhere - for the record there is no such thing as a "code of compliance".

There is this thing called the Building Code, and when any structure is built in accordance with associated building consent and passes council inspection, it's awarded a Code Compliance Certificate (CCC) - this certifies that the building complies with the Building Code. It's not rocket science.

The Code Compliance Certificate does not mean that the building complies with the mythical code of compliance - there is no such thing and the phrase itself is just nonsense....

Supposing for a minute that there was such a thing as the Code Of Compliance, surely the aim of such a code would be to monitor and administer the compliance of all things right? I mean it wouldn't just be buildings - they would be responsible for such things as issuing certificates to eligible dog owners who don't let their pooches crap on the footpath. That's a good form of compliance right there. Or drivers who stop at Give Way signs? That definitely deserves a Code Of Compliance certificate! Taking it further, any fish who stays in the sea would be eligible for a certificate just for complying with the laws of nature.

Honestly, I cringe every time I hear this stupid phrase....

The Herald mobile phone experience is utter junk. I had just started to read a story & huge pop up ad covered the whole screen - there was no obvious way of closing the ad. I got back to the story somehow, but the Herald experience is absolute garbage.

Giant rapture? Under the circs, maybe this was a euphemism for a big orgasm? Nah - I'm just yolking - butt if the doc had extracted just the yolks, everything would have been all white. Perhaps the participants got confused by the word albumen? Either way, the guy had to shell-out for the doc's bill.

Maybe not a silly headline but just watch the comments to roll in on this one! Within 2 hours they will close comments and delete them I predict.
