We are watching Jamestown at the moment. A 1600's period drama set in the Virginia tobacco fields with the early settlers.

Was shown on Sky UK recently and am watching through my IPTV. If upcoming on TVNZ, Lightbox or Netflix, it is well worth watching.

Just watching The Fall.

Very good. Moderately suspenseful and disturbing for a change.

Geektastic:

Swift & Shift

An hilarious Australian comedy set in a courier depot. SWMBO and I were rolling around crying with laughter. Genius.

Jeebus really? I thought it was worth a look, I got 10 minutes in and nearly gouged my eyes out.

I couldn't see one funny thing the whole 10 minutes.

Half way through the box set of Fortitude on Sky. Up to episode 6 of twelve. Just starting to get weird, but it is a compelling watch.

Yep, tried Swift and Shift but one episode was enough.

Watching a Korean series on Netflix called Bad Boys. Not bad.

The refreshing lack of PC if nothing else. No sacred cows in that one.

I watched The Crown S1 on Netflix.  I can't say I've ever really paid attention to the British royal family, but it was very well written and acted, and I found myself drawn into the stories and characters.  I saw John Lithgow's name come up in the credits, and was about 30 minutes into the first episode wondering when he was going to show up when I realised I had already seen him, as Winston Churchill.  It's obvious now I know, but they did a good job of make up for him.  Matt Smith as Prince Phillip was excellent, and achieved that rare thing of being able to cast off his previous casting as the Doctor and take on a new role.

Salvation.  CBS / Amazon Prime.  Not too bad for a sort of SciFi program.

Salvation

Slowly catching up on "Ray Donovan" on Hulu. Up to S3 now. Some interesting characters make it compelling, but am starting to think it has the usual curse of long running series: the plots get more and more extreme/unlikely as they have to keep incrementing upon themselves.

If I get cheesed of with this will have to go back to catching up on "Homeland" - still miles behind there.

So many series, so little time...

Really liking Ozark at the moment.  So refreshing to see Jason Bateman in a non-comedic role.  He always played the straight man in comedies anyway, so not out of place in this type of role at all.  Very suspenseful show, about a money launderer who gets mixed up in a plot to rip off a Mexican cartel and has to move to the middle of nowhere to try and set up a new laundering ring, with the threat of death to him and his family coming from all sides.  Some great dialogue too.

Just finished watching Midnight Sun on Lightbox. It's another murder mystery from the creators of The Bridge, and was pretty good. Not as good as The Bridge, but I'd definitely watch a second season, if they make one.

I've also been getting into The Leftovers on HBO. I can see it as being a bit of a polarising show, but I really dig it. It's based around the aftermath of people around the world mysteriously disappearing simultaneously. Just started season 2, which got off to a pretty heavy (but very intriguing) start.

We loved Leftovers. If you liked S1 your in for a treat with S2.

The trailer for 'Mr Mercedes' looks decent, but I can't find any info about if or where it might be shown in NZ.

Has anyone heard anything about this one?

Trollied - Netflix NZ - Sort of the office I guess but based in UK supermarket, not too bad so far.

Taken - Amazon Prime (NZ) - Decent enough action series on the Brian Mills character

Masters of Sex (Netflix NZ) - Good show

Van Helsing (Netflix US) - 1 episode in, seems ok so far

Would like "Sinner" to come onto a service somewhere, seems to only be on USATV which requires a cable subscription
