sm1ff: People who still uses DVD in 2020. Must upgrade to blu-ray or uhd blu-ray. As they are much sharper and clearer picture and audio quality and are more immersive too. Infact its only about 5 to 10 dollar difference between DVD and blu-ray and its worth it!!!!

Very true. Assuming you can get them. Have done a few box sets recently and DVD is all you can get for M*A*S*H and Last of the Summer Wine, etc, and even Elementary.

Geektastic: The lack of robustness in the electricity supply.

Second outage in a week. Not helpful when everyone working from home. Needs much more work on resilience.

Do you know the cause of the outage? Most seem to be physical damage to the gear from idoit car drivers. Not sure that people would want to pay for a robust enough network to deal with that outage free.

Generators are a thing. Probably cheaper to get one of those than pay for a totally redundant power network. At least with power you have that option. There is no way to have a backup internet connection that you keep in the shed.

I think he's talking about outages due to inclement weather.

OCD types who cannot comprehend that some people are perfectly happy with stereo sound or HD or even SD quality and prefer the handiness of DVDs. The latest and greatest is fine for those who want it and value it. But don't try to impose your values on others. It wasn't that long ago that people were blown away by VHS on their 4:3 CRT screens.

Here is something else the purists don't seem to get: Not everyone in the world wants to watch Marvel heroes special effects flics on a 70 inch screen with 20 speakers. A lot of us appreciate films with artistic and aesthetic qualities that usually aren't even made in surround sound and UHD. The world is bigger than you seem to think.

No. However, the outage is listed as the same place each time...

Getting an automatic response half an hour after submitting a request. I saw the email and went 'nice; they've replied already!'. Then I opened the email and got disappointed :(

On the subject of dvds still being used in era of blue rays.

Since Amazon uk stopped shipping physical media, getting hold of blue rays has got harder since usa which is now the only Amazon shipping site is a different region code area from nz/uk....

Lol. 70s and 80s sitcoms will get zero benefit from Blu Ray.

When the source material is 480i or 576i who cares?

The constant pop up messages on websites telling me they use cookies and am I OK with it ... they seem to be getting bigger and bigger!
Maybe a web developer can tell me what's the issue and why I have to be involved?

Europe. Really they should make a standard http header that says "im cool with your cookies" to supress that crap instead of the non functional do not track request.

True. Though some stuff, maybe not sitcoms, may have been filmed on actual film, e.g. I assume the bluray version of Columbo would have looked / did look quite good.

Very annoying. Sometimes I get from Zavvi.

I get very annoyed by (international) news sites that keep running out of time just when a discussion becomes worth listening to. 'Ooh, we are out of time. Tell me in five seconds how your idea will solve all humanity's problems.'

Are you listening, CNN? You are not the only one, but you are definitely one of the worst. F... your stupid advertisers. Screw your worldwide scheduling. Quit imposing dumb artificial constraints from the dinosaur era of national broadcasting and just let us watch the discussion.
