afe66: Trying to email legal document with confidential details to my work account and getting it quarantined because its encrypted and cant be scanned/read. Spent 30 minutes on phone to it support waiting to get it released.

Well isn't that the point of passwords on confidential documents...

Rename the encrypted document to e.g. X.MP3 then email it, then rename back to the original filename once through the mail system.

Woke capitalism.

The idea that I need emails from companies explaining their views on 'issues' annoys me. I do not care, at all, what their position is. I care that they deliver whatever it is that they exist to deliver and that is all. It really isn't necessary for every man and his dog to trumpet their opinion to the world. Silence will suffice.

I have unsubscribed from so many email marketing things in the last 12 weeks I suppose I should count that as a bonus.

Can you explain this more?
Is this because .mp3 files are not scanned?

That wouldn't work for our filter. If a file has a certain extension and its contents doesn't match then it gets blocked due to corruption.

Some filters only scan (or block) files that contain executable content (programs, batch files, spreadsheets or other macro-enabled stuff). So MP3 files pass through.

This hack does depend on the cleverness of the filter to determine that the file received is (not) a legitimate file of the type it pretends to be. To prevent this, some filters will only allow through files of a type that they recognize. Some filters are smart enough to look at the file and identify it as a zip (first couple of bytes are "PK"). But, for example, .docx files are in fact zips. So renaming to .docx may also work.

Or base64 or uuencode the file and send that in the body of the email. Perhaps add a character at the beginning so that the filter can't actually decode it. Or do this and put it into the body of a .docx.

For most businesses, MP3 files should also be blocked regardless.

The "paid content" click bait Stuff publishes. One of their current ones states that "Jaclyn Smith Is Almost 90, This Is Her Now."

She was an actress from that TV show Charlie's Angels. 26 October 1945 so is currently age 74.

What's the world coming to when you can't even trust click bait? 😆

I am really sick to death of rural delivery charges. Everything we get, including courier, comes via the rural postie, just like the regular mail. Yet nearly all companies now insist on sending anything and everything, however small and inconsequential, by courier. There is no good reason whatsoever to tack on surcharges for this. I am really tired of being ripped off for it.

Got a friendly nearby non-rural petrol station or dairy you could ask to have your items delivered to?  A few of our customers have such arrangements and they pick up their parcels on their way to+from work.

Institutional voicemail, especially as used by health service providers. Nurse calls you and leaves a message, but there is no possibility to direct-dial back. Instead you have to ring the ###$@%##%& 0800 number, thread through endless menus while listening to pointless BS messages, get stuck in a queue for 20 minutes while you are blasted with horrible 'music' you never would want to listen to even if the quality wasn't tinny crap, Eventually get a receptionist, explain why you are ringing, be told the person you want isn't available but will ring you back! No wonder this country has mental health problems!

Stores who have no option to speak to a human on the phone, who are slow or unresponsive to all other forms of communication. Some situations are complex and are much easier dealt with over the phone.

Overseas web stores that detect what country you are in, then let you shop in that currency (NZ) and tell you the shipping rates for that country so that you put some things you'd been looking for that they have at the best price you've seen into your cart.

Then, at payment and shipping, they do not let you choose your country as a country they ship to, and won't let you manually enter it, or continue.

Then, they don't answer their contact us email for (so far) a week.

If anyone else can get dobell.co.uk to ship here, I'd love to know how (I 'need' a Tux, and I have other dobell suits bought off another [AU] based site that looks like the AU version of the UK site).

Frustrating.

Whats annoying me right now:

NZ goes back to "normal".

I stay where I am - working from home.

My Office is dictated to by our overseas parent: 10% of workforce can re-enter building on tight restrictions. Essential workers only.

I stay where I am - working from home.

I'm pretty sure it's a result of (possibly over-enthusiastic) concern over privacy of health information.  Made worse because I guess many people don't pick up landline calls and let them go to answer because of the stupid number of scam calls, and/or block incoming calls from unknown numbers on cellphones.
